I bet your front bolt that holds the window to the regulator is loose. take off the interior door panel and take a look.

For some damn reason this problem is with almost all the 96-00 civics. It's actually a combo of things, when we get these we replace the window regulator, and run channel, problem solved. I know dude, I hate being the barrer of bad news but thats what it takes to fix, you can try to fix it but it won't it will just keep popping out.

Bcuz is right, it will only keep happening if you do not replace the parts.

The regulator sorta gets bent so it will not put the window up exactly like its supposed to in the channel, once it gets to the bent part it will pop off. Its hard to tell, if you pulled the regulator and **** out, it looks fine.

It sorta gets bent because people do not lube the run channel every now and then and it causes the motor to work harder and eventually bend the channel AND burn the motor out.

Happened to me more than once on both ******* sides of the car.

Remember silicone lube the channel sometimes. (white slippery material)

It happens to me maybe twice a year.........basically take off the door panel and loosen the bolt that holds the window regulator. push the window back in place on the track lined to the rubber. Lube it, tighten bolts back and it should be good to go for a bit.

Thats not fixing it, thats putting it of until next time. He wants it fixed. That is one way to do it, but who wants to pull the door apart two to three times a year.

Silicone spray works great. Spray it in the run channels were the windows travel. I do it every road service I perform on my car. In your owners manual, it will give you a list of other parts that need to be regularly lubricated.
