Default Wiring up Boost and EGT gauge to dimmer?

I wired up my boost and EGT gauge illumination power to the solid red wire of the dimmer switch. This is the variable output of the dimmer switch I measured to make sure I was tapping the right source. This is on an EK hatch BTW. Gauges work but when it was time to test the illumination, we ran into a problem.
The cluster illumination brightens or darkens opposite to the new gauges depending on where the dimmer is adjusted. If set at MAX, the boost and EGT are fully bright but the cluster is dim. Somewhere in the middle and the cluster is dim and the new gauges are super dim. Can't live with that or illumination that is going to be super bright if wired to constant 12V.

The cluster is fused for 7.5A. I don't think I am adding that much. My other option is the wire in a seperate circuit from a constant 12V and run another pot to control the illumination to the new gauges. But I am hoping you guys with gauges already have a solution.

BTW, i searched

I know this was covered once before, someone had the same proplem. Ill look to see if i can find it under my watched topics for you.

From what i remember tho you might have taken the wrong side of the dimmer switch.

Sorry Couldn't find it. But im pretty sure that's what they did they took the wrong wire, there an illumination and a dimmer wire you probably have the wrong one.

I'll check my wiring again. I did check the voltage to both red wires behind the dimmer control. The red with blue (or black can't remember exactly) stripe was the switched 12V, the middle was black (ground) and the solid red was variable depending on where the dimmer wheel is turned.

Doh, I did search but only in the FI section. i'll try another search here.

wrong wire, tap into the 12v power that is not adjustable by the dimmer. All will work fine.

hmmmnn, wouldn't that send full 12V into the lightbulbs then? i want to control the intensity of the light cause i'm ****.

heck, the backlight of the EGT gauge is brighter than the boost gauge. i may have to wire in an independent pot for each one. he he.

just wanna be clear that i'm **** and everybody knows that.
