Default 26 MM SWAY BAR?

I am looking for a rear sway bar for my eg2 del sol vtec. I was thinking of mugens 26 mm in the rear. I know this will make my car prone to oversteer which is good. My question is, has anyone done this and I hear it might rip the welds where it bolts onto in the rear? Also any recomendations for the size. I would like 26 but if its too big any suggestions?

If people using a 22mm rear swaybar have ran into trouble with subframe tearout, just imagine what a 26mm Mugen bar will do.

And i'm not sure what you mean by "better", but for the average joe, understeer is alot better/safer than oversteer.

A 22 ripped apart the frame?!?!?!?! CRAP! Do you have any links to information on that? I really wanted to go with the oversteer. My parents have a cobra and its so much more fun to completely loose the back end. =]
Is it a definate chance that my car would be ripped to pieces with that sway bar? I once read that teg type rs can handle it. Are the type rs that much different than del sol vtecs?

I have that on my del Sol Si (w/VTEC LCA's of course). No rippage. Rear end slides out......very nice and predictable.

I have coilovers on my sol.....so not much body roll. That may be one of the reasons I don't have ripping problems. My driveway is a 3-wheeling nightmare too.

I think 26mm is overkill. 22mm w/ the beaks kit and you are coo

22? I know that 22 is 6 mm more than what I have but I really want my car to be stiff. I do drive it around town but every turn I make is an adventure =] I have had slight problems where I was taking a 90 degree turn and my car almost *unstreered* right off the shoulder. NOT FUN! Talk about a panic lift off throtle situation! So I was looking at the 24 and 26 so that way *hopefully* the back end will come around a little bit so that turn will beg for more.

Ian:

I was under the impression that the stock VTEC rear sway was 14mm, not 16. I may be wrong on that one.

Anyway, the 22 works great. I can drift around corners and control the rear with the gas. Perfect balance IMO.

Really. Mine suck even more. LOL So you use 22 and youre good? hhmm I may have to go with your suggestions guys. Is your setup really stiff in the corners? The main reason for the huge bar isnt so much oversteer but stability and stiffness. Thanks for all the help guys

you say you want stability and stiffness, as wierd as this may sound, a 26mm rear bar will cause your car to ride so rough it won't be stable, you'll go over a bump and the suspension won't budge causing the weight of the car to be unsettled making it unstable. I've driven a cobra and know the feeling of being able to get sideways, its fun to say the least. However, a front wheel drive car is a completely different beast when it comes to getting it sideways. To get an FF (front engine front wheel drive) car sideways, you need to let off the gas or hit the brake allowing the weight to shift off the back wheels while turning, this allows the back end to come around. Now a 22mm rear sway would do this nicely and smoothly. A 26mm rear would be a lot more abrupt, to the point where it would be very hard to control. Here is where things get fun. To pull yourself out of a slide in cobra, just let off the gas pedal and it should quit. To pull out of a slide in a FF, you need to countersteer and HIT THE GAS! Its an eirie feeling getting the car sideways and having to hit the gas to regain control. Start off with the 22mm, get used to that first, then upgrade to a 26mm. 26mm is just to damn big to start off with, trust me.
