Default Tire size

I know there was a similar topic posted recently, I read it, but it did not entirely answered myy question.. And sorry for those who are tired of hearing about "what tire size?". I did my research but quite didn't find what I was lookinng for. Here it goes...

The question might seem (be?) simple, but it confuses me...

Okay, I'm not a big tuner, but I recently bought a 2002 Acccord 4dr and I want to make it nice to my taste. It came with the original tire size, 195/65/15.

I want to buy new wheels and tires. I decided at firts to go for a 225/50/16 size.

However, a guy at the tire shop swore to me that it would make no difference to put on some 17" (215 or 225/40). He told me that there is a difference (on the comfort level) between 15" and 16", but almost nothing between 16" and 17" (comfort no longer being something to look for that much).

The market being with the 17" (10x more choice than with 16"), and the look factor, I might consider the change. But I _do want_ to keep a "certain" level of comfort (forget the 18" for example).

He didn't told me to buy 17", but rather "why not"? What do you think?

Thx!

Vince

The bigger the rim the more contact it has with the road and more than likely the less sidewall you will have between the road and your rosey cheeks.

On a 6th generation accord I personally would go with 17's but 16's look just fine for a mild look. With 16's I would probably go with 215/55/16 or even 215/50/16 but I think the 55 series tires will suit you better for a more OEM quality ride.

Check out this tire guide as it gives a visual difference between sizes: Tire guide

Are you planning on altering the stock suspension or leaving it oem? This will also determine what tire size you should go with IMO.

in all honesty, dont go any bigger than a 17, but optimally, go 205/50/16, its perfect...get you some Rotas from JLBmotorsports.com...

Thanks for your comments.

My problem is not really what specific size to pick (215, 225, ..., the wider the better they say) but rather to know the following: is there, or not, a significant difference between 17" and 16" wheels, on the "comfort" level?

If not, I'll pick 17". If there is one, I'll pick 16".

Thanks for your input.

55 series tires are pretty meaty and should provide some cushion, actual wheel size (16 or 17) will typically not make a difference but choosing either wheel will dictate what size tire you run (so you don't rub). Granted a couple MM of tire sidewall won't make that much of a difference but it will with ride comfort.
