Default Roll Bar Installation Question..

Well, I got an Autopower Roll-Bar for my car. It looks good But the only problem is that it doesn't have any mounting plates. Apparently who ever had it installed in their car before I received it, cut off the plates at the bottom so that only the bar is left.

Which is the best way to install it?

Should I make my own plate, weld it to the bar and weld everything to the chasis?

Or should I weld the bars straight to the chasis without "plates"

I'm not sure if I'm in the correct forum. I was debating if I should have posted in Welding/Fabrication, Suspension, or EG/Civic etc....

Anyway, can anyone tell me the benefits of doing one or the other? Which was is best and most sufficient?

Any suggestion, advice, and/or experiences are greatly appreciated in advance.

Thank you H-T

im kinda curious, wtf made you even think a rollbar has anytihng to do with suspension?

anyway, just weld it into your car, or weld new plates. welding it into the car seems the more direct way. its the more firm way too. but welding bolt on plates obviously offers bolt-in (and out) capability. whatever fits your needs man.

doesnt a roll bar, if placed correctly, stiffen up the body/frame along with protecting the driver, theirfore tighten up the suspension like a strut bar would do?

I know its not really noticeable what a strutbar does, but isnt it the same concept?

either way you need base plats wether you are going to weld it in or bolt it in.

DO NOT just weld the circular tubing to the car.

If the plates are cut off and the cage and it is to low you cant jsut add tubing to teh bottom it wont pass the main hoop has to be one complete tubing no welds except where it attaches to the cars. if you where gonna weld it in to the car and it is to short i would suggest something like this will pass no prob

in my opinion, even strutbars are not suspension devices. perhaps just my opinion. but this question is best served in this welding forum in any case.

the plates need to be 36 square inches. so the most common is 6x6".

What kind of steel plates should I use? Is there a certain particular kind that would be most sufficient?

Your best bet is to follow the guidelines of a sanctioning body rulebook. (nhra.com has one)

More than likely someone cut the plates off to fit the bar into a shorter car. I don't know, but I'd probably bolt the plates in, and weld the bar to the plates.
