Dynomax VS. Magnaflow
I have a dynomax muffler type thing. lol. Not really a muffler, but I guess legally it can be considered that. Works great IMO. Sounds beefy too

not t mention it flows some 1200 cfm.
magna flow and flowmaster are in the 600's
Dynomax by far is my favorite sounding performance muffler.

is that true magnaflow wide open flows 600's?
im thinking about even dropping down to the super turbo dynomax cuz i heard its so quiet (even though its restrictive)

im bringin this topic back, i have a dynomax w/ fat and 18" resanator all 3". i think its a little too quiet, and i know the mufler isnt strait through. im about to build a new exhaust and i was planning on using two 3" 18" resanators and a magnaflow muffler. i know this will flow much better, but i dont know how much louder it will be with no cat, and a strait through muffler. and opnions?

w/ fat?
which dynomax did u get?
they have a super turbo and then a straight through ultra flow

i ment w/ cat (carsound 3") and a superturbo muffler. i heard the cat quiest it down alot, but on my next set up im going "cat-less" so i want to compensate for the incresed noise. w/ and extra resanator.
the dynomax muffler i have now is flat black w/ a turndown. and i want to get either the magnaflow w/ polished tip, or an apexi ws bu i cant find anyone that sells it.

Sorry, but you are sorely mistaken. At least comparing those 2 to Magnaflow. Flowmaster will flow the worst in comparison of all 3 mentioned. Magnaflow will flow MORE than Dynomax I have seen it with my own eyes. I would love to see you back this up with ACTUAL FACTS. And that is comparing their "Ultra-Flo" straight through muffler to a Magnaflow.

No that is untrue. See Above...

I was lucky enough to see a shootout of different mufflers on a flowbench. This machine isnt mine and this was a while ago, so I don have the test results or papers unfortunately. But to say that a Dynomax is going to double the flow of a Magnaflow for example is nothing short of ridiculous. Especially when you look at little factors such as Magnaflow using a 1 piece core. Meaning Inlet to outlet nipples is all 1 piece, not 3 seperate peices welded together. On a center/center configuration this is not nearly as big of a deal as say an Offset/ _____ muffler. This is because to achieve this dynomax cuts their perf. core at an angle shoves in the nipple and welds it together rather than making a mandrel bend and having it mate up cleanly and smoothly as possible.
With all of that being said, CFM numbers are COMPLETELY POINTLESS, because what counts is the dyno. Which is a numerous amount of factors brought together to get 1 outcome- your HP rating. Lets say Muffler B flows 1000 CFM and at the same control, Muffler B flows 750CFM. Can the vehicle being tested really use the extra 250CFM to its advantage with muffler A? It all boils down to useable power.
Wow that was long and drawn out... hopefully I made sense.

im wondering how much the flow of a muffler matters if you have a cat. the cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust and it the first sfter the motor. so it seems to me that after the cat it doesnt really matter what muffler you put on there as long as its 3" because it wont be more restrictive than the cat, therefor not hurting the flow
does this make sense to anyone?
