By rich they mean more specifically "rich under boost" which really means "running properly under boost". You don't want to have 14.7:1 AFRs under boost, more like 11.5-12.5:1 under boost depending on a bunch of things. Just clean it with hand polish and re-wax the area.

My motor uses zero oil but after a few thousand KMs of boosting I get some black crustiness back there. Even when I was all motor it would get the buildup, just not as severe.

Mine isn't. I am running pretty much dead on 12:1 in boost. You are running rich. Do you have a wideband to see what your a/f is? Did you make any other changes since having your car tuned? Do a pull shut your car off right away after the pull and pull your plugs land see what they look like.

take a look at your plugs that'll tell you everything! If they are black you are running rich and you will need to get another tuner cause the guy who tuned your car blows.

I have a wideband permanently mounted in the car. It runs mid-low 12s at 16 lbs of boost, not too rich IMO and I still get black soot with no cat. With my all motor setup, around 13s AF, I would also get the same black soot. *shrug* Maybe because I have no cat?

I have the same issue, I got black **** all over the back of my car. I can even see it on the ground where I park my car as it's built up over the last month or so. I have to wash the car a lot to keep it from going to ****. I was told by my tuner that he left it rich up top to make my motor last a little bit longer.

The strange thing is for a car that smells and appears to be running so rich I still get a poping type noise at idle at times like it wants more fuel. Sometimes on cold starts it acts like its starving for fuel as well. I think I need more time on a wideband...

i had this also, it gets more over time and now my turbo is blown... i think it comes from burning oil in the turbo exhaust housing... on my car it was a sign that the turbo is gone...

I've always had black soot dirty up the back of the car on my turbo hondas. They run rich and the excess comes out the exhaust y0

Default Black exhaust smoke....

I just got my turbo installed last week and the smoke from the exhaust is one of the first things I noticed on my car too. The inside of my Greddy exhaust pipe is all of a suddend getting noticably darker because of the exhaust.

You are not alone. I guess that's what they mean by joining the dark side...LOL.

Just kidding.

def the black soot is from running rich the only way you will be able to eliminate it from getting on your bumper is to either have your tunner lean it out a bit or you will just hve to spend more time at the dyno another way to keep it off your bumper is to buy one of those difusers or cut holes in your back bumper so the air flows thru it and blows the soot away from your bumperalso look into the rite sparkplug for your setup heat range and gap play abig role in burning fuel

Some of that is oil in this particular pic... but even with no oil, my rear bumper gets grey after a while. It's a bitch to get off. Fortunately it isn't a show car.
