I cannot select reverse gear and when changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear I get a cruch like the clutch isn't down properly.
Any ideas?

sounds like you broke something. I may be wrong but i think reverse is welded or connected to the tranny casing which means you need a whole new tranny especially if your grinding syncros
sounds like your just hitting the lockout.. try completly stopping the car, putting it into neutral, and then into reverse. theres a lockout on the tranny stopping you from switching into reverse while you're moving forward(try switching from 5th to reverse, it wont go in).
so try putting the car to a complete stop, then put the car in neutral, and then into reverse. if it still doesnt work, then it sounds like ur synchro's are done..

Tried that, still nothing, it will go into reverse a little bit but not all the way so as soon as I try to move it jumps out, if you try and hold it there it grinds as soon as I raise the clutch
yeah, reverse has no synchros.
it sounds like your clutch is dragging, try adjusting your cable. tighten it up a bit. thats probably all it is.
could be your tranny, but try the simple things first.
for adjusting the clutch, look here, i don't feel like writing it out when theres a page on it out in the open. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1245029

wise man
Our cars are old, things get loose...
Or just slam it into reverse with all u got. It's about to break anyway.

lol I wouldnt jump to conclusion that its the tranny just YET... My boys 04 WRX and another kids 00 ITR does the same thing yet they are smooth as butter most the time... it gets a notch into reverse but not fully in, takes them sometimes 2-5min to get it in.. its pretty funny how i can get my 89' y1 to slip in like glove, i rag on them aabout it allthe time...
last thing i can say is kinda try to lean the lever right hard while goin down into reverse i've notice that helps sometimes... and like faststd said... just bang it in there cause if it is the tranny, itll help you get a new one faster
whats the fluid situation?? what are you running in there? cable or hydro? have you checked the fluid lately?
