Default My first car!

Hey, my first car, my first post!

I'm about to pick up an 89 LX sedan with 143k miles for around $1k. It'll probably remain mostly unchanged since I'm going into college and going to be poor for quite a while, but I was wondering if there's anything cheap I can do to it that'll give it a little extra oomph. One suggestion I've gotten is removing the intake resonator, but I'm not sure if that's completely legal.

I'm moving to california, so everything may or may not have to be CA-legal (as I'm going to be bringing it in from out of state).

I'm thinking a little further down the line of swapping in a B-series and adding a turbo. But we'll cross that bridge when I have enough money to pay the tolls

I would have liked a DX hatch or even better an Si but there were none to be found, and this looks like a great deal

LX sedan means Dual Point FI..........................not a great performer.......not too much you can do with that motor....... you can swap like a d16a6 from a 1990-91 crx si and then build it...........i would do that

d16a6 swap is a lot of money and work for only 10hp tho, and I'd still need to replace internals to do a turbo wouldn't I?

Congrats on your first car! D16a6 swaps are pretty cheap as far as swaps go. Yeah, it may not be much on paper, but it is a huge difference. Better motor, better tranny, and multi point FI. You would be much better off and it would respond better to upgrades.

If you did a homemade turbo setup, something on light boost, etc., you probably won't need to upgrade internals. It, of course, would depend on the condition of the motor and how you treat it to determine whether or not it will last. GL

If I found a B16A1 engine+tranny for sale would it be likely to have a limited-slip in it? If not , is it possible to add on and how much would it cost?

i dont think they come with lsds, there about 400.

if i were you and id just save the money for when your finished school incase you run into any problems. spend the money on things like alarm, maybe a nice deck. just drive it and enjoy your fuel economy until your ready to start modding

Keep looking around...that's not that great a deal. Not bad, but if you look you can find an Si hatch for that price. Also consider this; if you're driving to Cali, the lower the milage the better

The hatches are all driven up in price and selling like hotcakes because of all the ricer omg2fast2furious people buying them. Besides, I like the idea of doing it in a sedan because no one would suspect 8)

On a semi-related note, how much boost do you think I could push into a B16A1 with premium gas? What would I need to get it up higher?
