Been Thinking...
CAN SOMEONE MOVE THIS TO ROADRACE/AUTOCROSS PLZ?
Lost another deal on a hatchcrap so I've done some thinking.
My current car, a '91 Accord DX I love. I know the car, I know how to drive it, but it's an auto, my parents', and I don't think it classes well anywhere.
NOW: If I wanted to begin doing HPDEs I'd have to buy it off my parents and I'm sure they'd give me a great deal. However, I'd have to do the auto->manual swap and how readily available parts available for it?
FUTURE: Would it be worth going through the pain of modding this car to realize 2 or 3 years down the line that it's classed poorly and not competitive? For instance, it's an H3 car. Can my 127hp+138lb/ft hang with an equally prepped GS-R? I think not.
Basically I'm just tired of looking for a car, what do you suggest?
edit: parenthesis below are 1. Assuming I'm not a horrendous driver and the car stays together. 2. Get rolled in H3 against prepped GS-Rs or leave the car mildly prepped and get rolled in H4 against CRXs

I was just going to ask the same question. MAybe you should "settle" for an ef. You can do the same things to that as an eh/eg, except it has a cable tranny and not hydro.
What about Bryan Sprinkel's car?

I've got a CX that I'd sell in the in the mid-2's. I'd then turn around and buy Bryan's myself. I just use mine to get to work. If you didn't want the CX engine then I *might* be able to track down something like a DX to put in it for you.
The only reason I'm switching is if I bought his I'd be set for a daily driver for a long time. Otherwise, I'll probably swap something newer into mine eventually. Anyway, if that's really your price-range, there's no reason for you not to find a car. It's the people that want to pay 1K that are holding out forever.

Gonna look at Bryan's this weekend most likely. Car will be a daily driver for a few years so I want something that has SOME power and cosmetically is decent.
I was thinking about bryans car also. Curious though, that dx motor would technically bump it up to h1 for echc, right?
I thought you were building a hybrid... what do you care about the DX engine?
hmmm.....
mine was under your 3000-4000 range....see in your above post you didn't specify auto or manuel....that is your problem....i love that dx you test drove...i'm glad i didn't sell it!! it's a blast to drive....b20 automatic will be going in soon....gonna keep it stock then turbo it in a few months!!

Anyway, I was curious just in case the car was ever run with the motor.
Now I found a miata for $500 to confuse me more...

buy a 5th gen coupe. (EJ?) it has an overall height 1 inch shorter then the 5th gen h/b and a wheel base 6 inches longer. a dx without a/c and stereo tips the scales at just under 2200lbs. (with a cage and otherwise full interior) drop the b16 in that, or a d16z. your main drawback of the coupe is a slightly shorter bump travel, making shortening shocks a must.
nate <-who drives a coupe and thinks they are just as fast as a h/b.

Why in the hell do all you guys think you have to H1 a hatch???
Especially when money is an issue.
Buy a damned DX 5 speed, throw a decent suspension on it, bolt in a cage, give the motor a little TLC, do a bunch of HPDE, and go kick Floyd's *** in H5.
Hell... buy Bookler's shell and drop a $500 motor/tranny in it... DONE!!!
Believe me, H1 is going to eventually attract some fast guys with fat wallets. The rules are pretty lenient. You budget limited guys will be crying all over each others shoulders.
So, you can spend your budget to get your *** kicked in H1 or spend the same money (or less) to be competitive in H5... DUH!!!
If you're budget limited in a big way, look at H5. It'll be cheaper by ALOT and you'll end up being a better driver for having to learn how to carry momentum.
geez...

for a few years now (before HC) i've had a dream of having an EG with a swap. I don't plan on winning necessarily, but it's somthing I've always wanted. And I was looking at a DX for $3k. Unfortunately the dealer (Joe Blow of Hickville) has treated me like **** and I'm fed up with him. The car needed new axles, and the engine smoked badly. I drove about 3 hours total to meet him and not once was he able to meet me. He lost my business. Back to Sprinkel's hatch. Would a CX hatch with a '00 DX motor be forced to run in H1?
Yes.
The motors are different and to my knowledge the tubs are different.
But I'll admit to not being a hatchy guru.
Once again, you can only swap motors and tubs and NOT go to H1 if there is no difference in the tubs that isn't aloowable by the rules anyway (the favorite example being the 94 GSR motor/tranny in a 94 RS tub. The only differences in the tubs are sunroof and power windows which can be removed legally anyway).
Get it?

Parents tell me tonight that they'd give me the Accord. This just gets more interesting every day. Any idea when you'll get the car Bryan?
If you want to think about the Accord (hey... It's FREE, making it an EXCELLENT race car) I'd suggest the following...
-Research available parts. Biggies are good brake pads, shocks and optimally sized wheels.
-Check into the cost of the tranny swap.
-Collect HP,TQ, and weight data. Lobby Shultz to re-class the car to H4.
I doubt this car is well classed by SCCA, but if all you plan to do is HPDE and Honda Challenge... What the hell. It's a FREE friggin' car.
