I always thought for some reason that Fix-A-Flat and related products will indeed fix the flat, but afterwards you can't add more air or something. Is there a downside to using those products or can you inflate/deflate your tire as normal after using them???

 

I used a fix a flat for a tire and it did the job. After using these products, the tire is no longer salvagable. You can keep adding air later on if needed but if you dismount the tire from the rim, you can't use it again. My tire lasted me 6 months after using fix a flat.

 

carry a space saver instead of using one of those inflatable *fix its*..all it ll do is permanently unbalance ur tire

fix a flat or other related products are cool, but once you take the tire off of the rim, it leaves a huge mess on the rim and inside the tire. just carry a spare tire, it's easier and you won't have to worry if the fix-a-flat is really working.

 

But it's heavy.

I personally have had my spare and jack out of my car for over a year now, I guess i have been lucky with it so far but one of these days it is gonna get me ......

hopefully not soon .

also i have no fix a flat but i never drive my car outa town so i guess i could try calling a friend to bring me his/her spare.

Carl, I think you're right. Once you use the fix-a-flat on it, I don't think a shop can properly repair the tire. I don't think anyone carries a spare though.

I carry a can of fix-a-flat w/ me, but when i go out of state i throw the spare in there.

 

Bro carry the spare (filled to 60psi) and don't worry about the extra weight which is no more than 30lbs max. Besides it's a well proven fact that removeal of 100lbs of weight will only reduce your 1/4 mile time by 0.01 of a second, so don't remove your passenger seat either. Driving around with only a 1/4 tank of gas or less would be better over all for speed and accleration. But I aways carry a can a fix-a-flat anyway. Just the other day I used it to get a lady and her kids home when her tire when flat and she didn't have a spare.

Thanks for the reply. But I have to ask........where do you get your information that 100 lbs within a car betters a 1/4 mile time by only one thousands of a second????

My case in point. A GSR which I'm not sure, but I think are around 2,800-3,000 lbs go usually mid to low 15 in the 1/4 miles stock. Throw a stock GSR engine into an EG, even an Si (2,600 lbs) and you can get mid 14's. There are a ton of variables here but those are the "in general" times which I see at the track and which my friends have run. So, even if we take a VX hatch (around 2,400 lbs) and compare it to a GSR of 2,900 lbs that would only be a difference of 500 lbs equating to .05 seconds according to you. That is about .50-.95 seconds shy of what happens when you do the engine swap. The main variable there being weight.

Not trying to be a jerk. That .01 though really seemed out of place to me though.

EG SI is no where near 2600lbs ... the EM1 SI Coupe is 2600lbs

VX HB is probably like 2100-2200lbs

 

dont you guys mean 100lbs = .1 second and not .01? if its .01 that means that a vx gsr hybrid would only run 15.14 if the stock gsr runs 15.2. but if its .1 then the vx gsr would run a 14.6. doesn't that sound more reasonable?

 

if weight is more of an issue than having a spare..carry a spare and if ur going to race ..take it out then..if ur at the track that is..i know ur not street racing for sure

 

Fix a flat is only good once and briefly. It fills the tire with an expanding epoxy foam. It will fix some small leaks and puntures but not all. It is a my space is screwed and I am up against it type deal. If you leave it in the tire, according to a local goodyear guy, the stuff will eat the tire and then strip the finish off the wheel after that. The good news is that after you use it you can have the tire and wheel cleaned and repaired by a tire shop as long as you tell them you used it, it makes a big mess in the shop. So it works, sometimes, and you have to deal with your flat or you will be up a creek later.
