Default 4130N to Mild steel?

I have a friend who has a 4-point roll cage in his EH currently that is 4130N cro-moly. We are wondering if standard DOM tubing can be used for the front half of the cage? How does everybody feel about heat-treating the 4130N after Tig welding it? Can the ER-80S filler be used without issue? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a pro welder, but normally Tig Stainles and alum., I've never really encountered this. I know I've used Mild Steel baseplates with a moly cage with no issue, but never really a mixed cage. Thoughts?

Thanks

D.

yes u can use DOM but also realize that is has to be of thicker material... i dont heat-treat stuff so i wont comment and the er-80s filler will be fine... afterall u still are welding steel to steel... as chromoly is a steel

Yes, the DOM is thicker. Thanks for the reply. I figured it was fine as I remember back in my BMX days having frames that had cro-mo main tubes only and regular steel for the rest of the frame.

Thanks

Yeah it shouldnt be hard. Although, if your looking at getting the cage cert'ed, dont expect it to pass as a chrome-moly cage. The 80S filler will work fine, and as stated, the DOM needs to be thicker. Shouldnt have any problems at all. GOOD LUCK!
