VTEC spool solenoid valve (gasket related)
I've been looking into this for the past couple of days. I'm curious what the difference between these part numbers are...
36172-p08-015
36172-p08-005
This is the gasket that goes between the top of the valve and the lower portion, not the one that sits between the valve and the head. I have a b20 w/ a GSR head... I was under the impression that they were all the same for bseries motors.

My advice to you would be to either order both gaskets from Honda and compare or go to Honda and ask someone. My bet is one part number replaced the other. They change part numbers all the time and update the catalogs. Its nothing to be concerned about and I can't figure out why you would spend so much time on the subject.

I'm going to the honda dealership today but I just figured someone knew off the top of their head.
I've put time into it because i was researching the possible reasons why I was throwing a code 21. So when I take things off to examine I'm going to replace the gaskets/screens while im at it.

I would be willing to bet that the code has little to do with your gasket. also, please note there are two gaskets in the solenoid. One o ring on top, and the funky screened one on the side. If you have checked your wiring and are sure its all in good shape, I would try replacing the vtec solenoid to see if it resolves your issue.

Yup I know about both of them... I also have an oil leak in that area, havent determained if its the cam seal or the 2 gaskets..
I have not checked the wiring... Since it's been working fine for so long... (stupid assumption i know...)
Honda Dealership didnt have the parts...and wanted $15 more for the 3 where as majestic i would get 4 (the two similar part numbers) + shipping for $33

Just to follow up... I have the parts... and the difference between the 005 and 015 (the smaller upper gasket) ones are that in the small hole one has a screen and the other doesnt... I pulled off my vtec solenoid and mine did not have the screen one on it...the screen one will not fit on this... not sure if its something specific based on the type of head or not... (i have a 96 b18c head on a b20b block) ....
