I just got my first job, and will be making around 900 a month hopefully. I am looking to turbo my automatic 1998 Civic Ex with 100k Miles. I am wondering how much I can get a turbo for, I would like a kit, but if it costs more than 1200 then I want to piece one together, and would like estimates. Would turbo'ing this automatic car yeild good results? I am looking to be as quick as a STOCK B16A2 5spd. Would turbo'ing a car with this many ( 100k) miles be asking for trouble? Thanks.

 

personally at 900/mo i wouldn't turbo an automatic ex (which i own as well)... i'd be saving up money for another car... rather that than run 15s from a junkyard turbo.. but i don't know what living costs are like in kansas

 

i would really invest in a different car while you haven't touched anything. if you are a skilled mechanic then swap in a manual, or just sell the car and buy one.

as far as power, you can find a "complete" kit for around 3,000. being that is out of your price range you can piece one together, and tune using uberdata all for under a grand.

I live, eat, everything for free. No expenses. But I am only working full time for summer, three months, and want to save at least 2800. I don't want to buy another car, etc, I might, but this is one of my options. What do you all think?

And 3k is DEF. too much, what are all the parts I need? Thanks.

 

does the HF manifold allow you to keep your A/C with a 2.5 downpipe?

 

900x3 = 2700... my vote is to save it all then

but let's keep it tech... turbod16 is a good resource... just do some searching so that YOU know personally what you need to get because it sounds like you're wanting to save money and do it yourself or with local help... people have put together junkyard turbos for less than 1k... just takes patience to find your parts...

Your gonna need:

Turbo...i recommend a t28 or t3
Manifold (log or highflow)
Intercooler
Charge pipes (with couplers)
Blow off valve
Downpipe
Wastegate (unless turbo comes with internal one)
Oil lines
Hoses
2.5" cat back exhaust
2 main guages you need:
Boost Gauge
Exhaust Temperature Guage
Other gauges you can get: Fuel pressure/oil pressure/oil temp
Fuel Management: I recommend a chipped P28 OBD1 ecu with some bigger fuel injectors(have to get it tuned)
OR you can get an FMU and keep your stock injectors, but you would need to get an inline fuel pump(don't need to get it tuned if your using an fmu)

I have a 192,000kms on my car and it's turbo'd. Do a compression test, if it's fine....no problems.
I'm pretty sure those are all the main pieces you need.

dude, im sure u can get a decent kit for well under 1500.****, they sellem for Bseries for almost just as cheap.
Turbo cars and low income are looking for trouble, especially if u buy ****

 

dont do an auto, its a waste..

Oil lines and hoses are universal parts. Just gotta find a place that sells them. Well if you don't want to spend that much......go the FMU route.....there is no tuning required. Trust me dyno tuning costs alot.

sup hazem, remember me?? jonathons friend with the black coupe. dude its gonna cost u a descent amount for a nice setup, i spent like 2,600 bucks. but since u have an automatic ur only options are an FMU, or the hack.

 

if you dont want a new car....i would go ahead and just turbo it. it will be fun. just dont be cheap...its not gonna cost that much...just do it. start ordering your parts now.

 

go to homemadeturbo.com there is sponsors there that sell all the misc **** that you will need and there is tons of write-ups and pics that will help you get a nice/decent well running set-up for the money you are looking to spend. lots of people have done it successfully with no problems just do your homework first!
