You need your R, some extra air in the tires if they're stock, and a helmet, yours or borrowed (sometimes places have loaners) There's lots of info on this in the Competition forum, poke around/search there.
who told you all these BS
All you need is get up early and show up at the autoX site !!!!!

let us knoq where you live. there is probably somebody here in the area that can point you to a schedule and show you the ropes.
rollcages and kill switches are required for club racing (wheel to wheel). SoloII (autocross) doesn't require them for sedans. SoloI (timetrials, hillclimbs) requries some saftey gear, but not all of it.

Here's what Tech guys look for:
- throttle that snaps back (ie. the return spring for the throttle plate)
- ALL lugs for ALL studs
- remove all loose items
- working seatbelts
- Nothing flapping around on the outside
- Hood secured
- rims secured
- basic tire wear (no cords)
Otherwise, you should be good.
Things to consider bringing:
- Water
- Jacket
- tools
- camera (you'll kick yourself when you see a rare car and wish you had pictures)

You don't even need to own a helmet. Most clubs have one you can borrow.
Just you and your car. That's all you need.
But I would also bring:
food
water
suntan lotion
air pump
a hat
a great attitude
If they allow it: get someone (an experienced autocroser) to ride with you
If they allow it: Ride with another experienced autocrosser. Sometimes, there's no substitute for a front row demonstration on how it should be done.
And remember, Confucious says: Sometimes you must go slow, in order to go fast.

All lugs there and no slop in the wheel bearings.
Battery secure!
Good brake pedal pressure
No oil/fluid leaks
Snell 90 or better helmet
Anything that doesn't look "right" or safe
We will also ask about what class the driver is entering (even tho that is not our job) and if they don't know we will advise them (mostly Novices).
