Default Given a 2001 XR100, a few questions

Hello, a friend of mine gave this motorcycle to me and I promised I would fix a couple problems, even though I know very little about bikes. Her son really wants to ride it again, so any help would be appreciated.

Just doing a general inspection I found a couple problems. The kick starter is jammed somehow and won't turn over the engine. We tried to 'push start' the bike but it just locked up the rear wheel.

It had been left out in the elements for a year or two, so the chain is solid rust. The spark plug was also pretty loose and seems to have allowed water in the cylinder as the plug was rusty. I'm taking it in to the local dealer for a checkover, but what are the chances this bike will not run again? Should the motor at least turn over with the push start in first gear?

If I can get it running, it may be my trainer bike as I've been wanting to learn how to ride. Pretty small but it should teach me the basics.

A.Fill the cylinders full of oil, and let it sit for a few days

B. Lube the **** out of the chain

C. Take a MSF course to learn the basics, and not teach your self bad habits

Well, the oil doesn't seem to be working at all.

If I take the motor out, how much would it cost on average to get the motor rebuilt? I'm trying to determine if it's worth keeping this bike.

You need to let it sit for a few days. Fill the entire cylinder. After a few ways, you need to put it in gear and turn try toturn the rear tire.

Hit up EBAY and get a used motor.

its a 4 stroke though tops ends run forever on them i never had problems with my xr when i was young.

maybe it seized the bottom end from water in the cylinder?
