cv joint aaaargggggh
ok on the way home from work, the axle broke thank god for my welded dif.. and i was TRYING to change it.. got everything off but the big bolt through hub.. the incher and 1/4 wont come off tried everything.. anything you guys can think of.. i tried a breaker bar, heat and air pole on the breaker bar it just wont come off.. any suggestions
The big bolt in the hub? The Axle castle nut????? If thats it, theres a little slot that the lip of the nut is banged onto, so it doesnt spin off. Get that lip up, and w00t.
just use an air impact.. if you don't have access to air just get an electric impact, thats the only way i could get mine off. I broke a 1/2" breaker bar trying to get it off, then broke down and went to sears and bought an electric impact.
^^^^ i agree... when i changed my axles, i banged the hell out of those stubborn axle nuts.. thank God for creating air impact tools.. makes everything a breeze... btw after you get them off... you should buy a new pair of castle bolts... they're usually like 2 for $5..

Did you make sure to use a screwdriver to unseat the nut from groove in the axle?? The nut is split so it bites into the key in the end of the axle. I would suggest a heavy duty impact or a large breaker. I ended up using a 4 ft piece of pipe and a 1/2 inch socket to remove those pita axle nuts.
when i did mine the passenger side came off pretty easy buy the driver side was hell. I broke a Johnson Bar, wasted half of a propane torch, broke a flathead screwdriver, and broke many titanium drill bits. but in the end the drill bits came through. If you are really stuck like i was just drill the hell out of the nut untill it falls apart. hack job ...but it worked.

welded diff?
FYI that's not a castle nut. A castle nut is the one thats on the balljoint.

welded diff? </TD></TR></TABLE>
When you weld the spider gears on a dif, it acts as a spool. The tires are always spinning at the same pace because of the mechanical connection. The normal diff allows a differential in speed, and open diffs send all the torque to the axle with the least resistance. If he broke it with the open diff, he probably wouldn't be able to drive. The welded diff allowed him to drive back probably.

i just put a breaker bar on top of a hydrolic 2 ton jack...and started to jack the break bar up till it broke the nut loose...took about 2 mins cause i was scared the break bar flys off and hits me...so i hit behind under the car roller thing
i tried everything you guys said to do... but one thing putting the jack underneath the breaker bar and jacking it up good idea.. thanks guy and if there are any other suggestions let me know please
