Default TROUBLE SHOOT Q/A's.

I was bored so i came up with this. PM or post to this thread if you would like to see changes or to add anything. Ill try to update this as much as possible.


ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START:
1 Bad battery. Either dead or terminal loose or corroded and covered in battery acid. Try jumping your car after cleaning the terminals.
2 Bad fuel pump. Turn the key to ON position and listen for the hum. If you hear a hum form the back of your car, your fuel pump is good.
3 Not in Park (automatics). You're an idiot.
4 Bad starter.
5 Bad ignition switch.
6 Bad main relay.
7 Water/moisture in the distributor. Dont clean your engine bay without covering your ignition system.
8 You didnt mark all the connectors when you took out the motor and you incorrectly connected connectors. Some like TPS and MAP have the same connectors.
9 Check all your fuses.

ENGINE CRANKS BUT WONT START:
1 Check all of the above first.
2 Fuel not reaching fuel rail. Listen for the hum with key at ON position.
3 Bad spark plugs. Gapped wrong. Or if you have forced induction set up or high compression NA, you're gonna want to run colder spark plugs.
4 Bad timing. Set to Top Dead Center. Distributor retarted to 16 degrees.
5 Bad injectors. Either bad or too small for your set up. Or you're running high impedence when you should be using low impedence, vise-versa.
6 Your TPS and MAP sensors are incorrectly connected.
7 Bad coil.
8 No or low compressions across the cylinders. Piston rings not seated or worn. You didnt hone the cylinders at build. Wrong piston size for the bore.
9 Flooded cylinders (bigger injectors with stock ignition system). Unplug spark plug wires, take out spark plugs, take out fuel pump fuse, and crank couple of times, then put the **** back together.
10 You installed the intake cam on the exhaust side and exhaust cam on the intake side (is this even possible? You must really be stupid).
11 Spark plug wires not plugged in correctly. 1-3-4-2 with 1 being bottm left going clock wise.

ENGINE STARTS, THEN DIES SOONER OR LATER OR AFTER HITTING THROTTLE:
1 Check all of the above first.
2 Vacuum leak. Maybe between your intake manifold and your hondata intake gasket.
3 Your TPS and MAP sensor are incorrectly connected.
4 Bad alternator.
5 Bad crank fluctuation sensor. This tells ECU when to open injectors depending on speed.
6 Valve adjustments needed after a head swap and/or cam swap.
7 Stock valve springs on aggressive cams.
8 You dont have a missing link on your turbo'ed car.

BAD ENGINE IDLE:
1 Vacuum leak.
2 Bad fuel pump.
3 Cracked cylinder. Coolant leaking into cylinder causing car to run rough.
4 Bad timing.
5 Cracked Hondata intake manifold gasket.
6 Bad gasket between the intake manifold and throttle.

LACK OF POWER OR BAG FUEL MILEAGE:
1 Off a tooth on a cam gear.
2 Distributor shaft with excessive play.
3 Turbo with excessive shaft play.
4 Using too thick of engine oil.
5 Bad spark plugs. Colder for turbo or high compression motors.
6 Using lower octane gas.
7 E-brake on.
8 Clogged fuel filter.
9 Obtraction in your exhaust system.
10 Intercooler piping came off.
11 Filthy intake filter.
12 Set tire pressure at 35 psi.
13 Exhaust system too big for NA cars. NA cars need back pressure.
14 Exhaust system too small for forced induction cars. Dont believe what other people says, you DONT NEED back pressure with turbo'ed cars.
15 Rear bumper catching wind. Cut holes or create rear diffuser.
16 Bodykit causing drag. OEM bumper with lip kit reduced drag much better.
17 Installed bigger and heavier rims. The engine has to work harder to make the same distance.

CAR OVERHEATING:
1 You should always replace your water pump when you replaced your timing belt.
2 Bad thermostat.
3 Air bubble in coolant system. Wait until motor is cooled. Open coolant gasket, turn on car with highest heat setting. Pour 50/50 coolant water mixture until full.
4 Blown head gasket.
5 Cracked cylinder.
6 Fan not coming on. Check fan fuse.

Bad idle can be caused by a cracked intake manifold gasket too Had that happen.

Overheating can be caused by a BLOWN fuse!!! lol, almost blew my motor b/ of that.

i cant tell if your being a deuche or you want to know the same thing...either way..whcih fuse was it?
