Default 2000 gsr. engine problems, blue/black smoke

Hello

I want to buy a local acura integra 2000 gsr thats selling in the autotrader.

The seller is selling it pretty danm cheap but the reson why is because the engine seems to be burning oil

Heres is what it does:

we took it so far for 2 test drives with my bother and friend following behind us in my car checking for smoke. they say its smokes, mostly black in color but does have some blue (i also noticed this) which would mean its burning some oil and running rich from what i can tell.

When you rev it up some times it does puff some blue smoke when sitting but mostly pretty clear for the most part

The seller added some oil stop smoke treatment to the oil that i found out so maybe it was even worst before he added the stuff

We also did a compression check on the motor

first time it was: 210 210 215 230

second time: 220 220 225 230

So i seems the compression is ok but a little high? the spark plugs were pretty danm black and looked like there was alot of carbin on them (looks like it was running really rich) on the number 3-4 cylinder it seemed the worst. he also jsut changed the plugs about 2-3weeks ago.

The car does have a header from the previous owner, looks like stock cat, muffer, piping

So the question is what is wrong with the motor. are the rings going or is it just the seals or could it be something else? the motor seems very strong and sounds like it runs fine

So to basicly sum it up, there is black smoke but has some blue to it from the exhaust when you rev it up/drive it, owner has added oil treatment to try stoping the smoke. car has headers, stock cat back. about ~150kilometers on engine (about 90-100miles)

Please help me out, this car wont be around for long.

when the motor is hot and it smokes then its most likely the rings, if it smokes on a cold start its the valve seals, To change the valve seals you have to take the head off so you might as well put pistons in it too. if its mint i wouldnt pay more than 7k for it.

doesn't sound terribly promising my fellow winnipegger Judging from your posts on heights you are set on getting a gsr, but this one may be worth passing over judging from the blue smoke (after oil treatment ). You could always get the rings changed or the bottom end rebuilt for a decent price from uncivilizedmb on heights if that is the problem, but I'd be very careful considering the price of b18c1 motors, the replacement parts and the repairs.

good luck with your decision

ive heard that a cloged pcv valve causes the motor to burn oil, because it causes higher than normal crank pressue causeing blow-by

you shold do a leak down test ]

most likely valve seals....

does it smoke under acceleration or deceleration.

did it puff a huge cloud upon start up?

My brother's civic si blows out blue/black smoke but his is because he knocked out his cat.
Is the CEL on?, if it is take it to a place and get it tested - that might solve you're problem... it could also be burning oil if its low and hasn't been replaced in a while. The best way to rule that out would be if you did a complete flush. - hopefully its nothing in the cyl head
