Which is better.....short ram or long tube intake ?
CAI refers to cold air intake, which you called long tube. The short ram is not a CAI. I went short ram because the cai's have a chance (even though its not a big chance) of hydrolocking your motor by sucking up water. I don't think there is a big enough power difference to justify the risk. It's all perference though. My $.02
long tube CAI with aem by pass valve. Short ram is a waste because your sucking hot air into the motor from the engine bay. Now you can use the short ram when your not racing so as not to have the chance of hydro lock and just by an extension to put on when you race like me and my bro did.

Good article. SR wins! In that particular application at least.

there is but you just have to be careful.m Take my advise and just have an extension for when you race. Just remember short ram lose hp.
I just take my headlight out when i'm at the track, and my SR gets all the cold air it can handle. My filter couldn't be any closer to the headlight, in fact I had to trim it to fit. Ebay $90 AEM SR
But why whould you sacrifice the hp when you can have the hp and torque. Plus if you do opt to get the by pass valve (recommended) you dont have to do any of the taking out headlight etc.

I'm not convinced I am sacrificing HP (in the article for example, the AEM SR dynoed 1.5 hp higher than either of the AEM CAI's), and i've seen motors hydrolock with the bypass valve.

i had a aem CAI with bypass on my 91' accord and i loved it
it rains alot where i live and i never had a problem with water, but it was also stock ride hieght.
now i have a shorty on my civic and i didnt like it but o put a larger, better k&n filter on the end of it and it made a HUGE difference..
its more personal preference i think

Filter is much more important than most people think.

with the bypass you cant be an indiot you have to take it easier on the accelerator when it rains otherwise you will suck up the water throught the intake tube because you have to let the water drain out of the tube first. I like CAI but it is personal preference. we can disagree all day and never change each others mind.

EGDashSix, its a ******* typo, get over it. Some of the smartest people on the board have low post counts since they signed up for this board to read, not write.
