Default Head gasket for minime swap

Hey, quick question, I have my stock y7 block, and i have a z6 head and im about to do my swap, i bought a head gasket from honda but i believe its for my y7, my brother believes the head gaskets are all interchangeable but we want to make sure. So do i need a z6 gasket, a y7 gasket or are they all the same? Thanks!

Get a Y8 2-layer gasket and have higher compression.

Many people have reused the stock gasket, not very smart IMO. Always try and get a new gasket.

I have a y7 shortblock with a z6 head too. I reused the z6 headgaskets, but I may try the y8 like suggested earlier.

I could have sworn the z6 and y8 headgaskets are the same. I can't see any problems with using a b7 headgasket besides the lower compresson. If you do get the z6 or y8 head gasket, take some pictures and compare the two. I used a z6 headgasket on my mini-me swap.

All d-series head gaskets are compatible, so yes the y7 will work

Never knew that... thnx! Might just go with the y8 for the higher compression, and its cheaper than a z6, and yeah everyone says the y8/z6 are the same with different part #'s and different prices (z6 being about $20-30 more), but i hear the y8 is 2 layer and the z6 is 3... ?

I think I will try the y8 gasket (I need to change my timing belt anyway). What model does that come in since I don't think I'd be able to order it just by saying y8?

the y8 head gasket is a 3 layer. just remove the middle layer and you got a two later.

Why would you do that? Think about layers in a headgasket as layers of naked ***** all over you. The more the better (to an extent with the HG though)... Put 1-2ft-lbs more torque on the bolts than the factory service manual states. I would actually even use some fine grit sand paper and polish up the mating surface a little bit. The cleaner and smoother the surface the better the seal on the HG.. Good luck and Happy Tuning!!
