Well here are the pics behind my dash. The rattling is driving me crazy, it does it at any speed and the faster->the more it does it.

Now, should I grease inside the plug on the little shaft ?? Or should I put grease on the butt, where you plug the cable in?? (finger in the back)



People who have done this, please help before I start beating up my car.

 

Hate to say it, but when those things go there's usually not much you can do. I'd say just replace the cable.

 

TOOK ABOUT A MONTH OF GREASING EVERYTHING TIL THE SOUND WENT AWAY
JUST KEEP SPRAYING DOWN THE TUBE LIKE EVERY WEEK BUKAKKE STYLE

edit- will white lithium grease be ok?

 

On my car,I removed the cable end
from the transmission side, then removed the inner cable
from the housing and coated it lengthwise with wheel bearing grease..



Easy method:Coil it as shown,set it in the grease and turn one end..
You can also squirt some into the cable housing with a grease gun.

ok awesome man. I just put a lot of lithium grease inside the hole and apparently it touches the whole shaft so thats what I wanted. Noise is partially gone now.

Pull the inner cable out from the transmission side..

Where can you get a cable for a good price? How difficult is the replacement?

 

the junk yard is a good price ( 5 finger discount in the pants leg)
