Default help with annoying speedometer cable

my 90 inetgra LS with 223K miles has developed an annoyingly loud rattle/squel/squeak that i am pretty sure is coming from my speedo cable.

i took it to the dealer but they of course want too much $$$

so any idea on how to lube the cable or even disable it? i have had the car so long that im really good at knowing roughly how fast im going by what gear im in compared to rpm's

G2IC.com has a write-up. You don't need to 'rip apart the dash'. You disconnect the cable from the tranny end, pull the cable out of the casing, clean, then relube with something better than WD40. Then reinsert into casing and push towards the firewall to reseat into the VSS. Go search for the write-up to be certain how because I am going off memory with limited brain capacity.

does it sound like it could be your wheel bearing because i sort of have the same thing your explaining and thought it could be the wheel bearing but there is no wobbly feeling and my speedo jumps sometimes changing the sound of the squeeking
