I HAVE A LSVTEC ANDIT RUNS GREAT I HAD THE B16 ECU CHIPPED BUT I DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID IT HITS VTEC AT 4.5 I HAVENT PUT A KNOCK SENSOR IN YET JUST HAVE IT PLUGGED IN WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO PUT IT AND COULD I TAP THE HEAD AND PUT IT IN THERE DOES KN0CK SENSOR REALLY HELP CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON

 

Knock sensor does help alot. It retards the timing as it reads more knock. It can prevent a serious engine disaster. Im not sure of mounting places, but i gather that you could attempt to tap the block or even find a nut that fits the sensor and jb weld it to the block. never hurts to try, ya know. and i dont think that improper instalation would cause your motor to go boom.

jb welding and block shouldnt be used together in the same sentence. if your just going to glue it to the outside it might be okay. but if your going to tap the block dont do it. jb weld is just strong glue

 

Could this be any more ridiculous??? You don't tap the head for a knock sensor!!! Knock is measured as vibrations in the block, which is isolated from the head by the gasket and has it's own vibrations from the valvetrain which can be misread by the sensor.

It has to be in the block, which by the way already has a special hole tapped for a knock sensor!!! It's right underneath the 2nd intake manifold runner. Very difficult to get to, but its there.

 

Not to mention setting the knock sensor away from the block any distance will give it a resonance of its own. You WILL have a problem with it, I tried making an "adapter" and whenever you got off the throttle and let the car coast for more than 5 seconds, the check engine light would come on with a knock code. If you search, there is a solution for this. Your other alternative is to disable it in the ecu, but it depends on what ecu you have.

 

Yeah, if you're going to chip an ecu and don't want knock sensor just get a p28, it's the only VTEC ecu that doesn't read knock sensor.

 

You can disable knock on the other ECUs that have the knock board, like the P30. If you're really ambitious, you can desolder the board and remove it entirely!

 

No doubt, I just don't recommend certain things to people if it seems out of their league to perform it...P28 is the no-brainer way to get rid of it!

 

the stock knock sensor sucks if your goign to get one get an aftermarket knock sensor that can sense more.
