Default 94 ACCRD Engine starts, runs briefly then dies no cel

1994 Accord ex wagon VTECH engine

Engine cranks readily, sometimes starts quickly sometimes not, will rev for a few or 10-20 seconds then die. Will usually restart, run briefly then die again. CEL does not come on.

Pulls good vacuum, plugs look fine. I'm suspecting (since no CEL and doesn't sound rough when engine does run) likely fuel system problem of some kind (faulty pump, maybe pressure regulator, etc). Should I get a fuel pressure gauge and check? Should I just get it towed in for service? (Don't think I'm up to replacing a fuel pump, but pressure regulator should be within my ability). I've kind of ruled out clogged fuel filter, is this reasonable?

Thanks for any suggestions or help you have to offer.

That's a real good idea if you want to find out if it is a fuel supply problem or not.

deserthonda,

That's a great suggestion and I deserve a kick for not thinking of it since I had that exact problem on my 85 CRX. The ig. switch would go out sporadically and the car would be completely dead. I finally realized nothing electrical was on when this occured, no warning lights or anything. Will check after work today.

Thanks,

Allen F.
