Default mini me problems....help!!!

ok guys...i posted last night....but i fixed most of the problem.

heres my setup...
d15b2 block
d16y8 head
d16z6 head gasket
d16z6 timing belt

heres my problem....low end the idle sounds like its missing and is very hard to take off....after 2500 rpms it starts to make power and only after this point i can give it about 1/4 throttle, if i give it more than 1/4 throttle it boggs out.

now what im thinking is that my valve timing is retarded too far hence the poppy idle and no low end torque. now the question i have is am i supposed to use the d15b2 cam gear on the d16y8 head.....or is it the timing belt.....or maybe something else im overlooking.

thanks
adam

Do you have an adjustable cam gear?

no i dont have an adjustable cam gear but i did just hear about this yestarday and i think im gonna be picking one up today. but still something doesnt seem right....i advanced the timing one tooth on the cam to try to compensate for the lack of power and now it is easier to drive but goes no where. at WOT u can hear the intake screaming but it just wont pick up which seems crazy to me since its got 10.52:1 compression ratio (actaually a lil higher due to z6 head gasket). anyways....do you guys think that the cam gear will help with this problem or do u think it is something else?? any help is appreciated.

BTW....before i advanced the timing 1 tooth on the cam i left the school parking lot and after it passed 2500 rpms i mashed it and grabbed second and it spun all of second no problem on dry pavement with the 4 speed in it i think im gonna like it once the problems are worked out and i hook up VTEC.

um, you better just fix your problem instead of getting a adj. cam gear. it definatly sounds like your off a tooth on your timing, you know it has to be dead on perfect the way its supposed to be or it wont run right.

someone help this guy

you need to run the right cam gear that matches the lower timing gear from the block. do a search , its been done before , plus i have a mini my self, vx block z6 head. running the vx cam gear with vx timing belt runs finee. and you have to remember to pull out the oil plug so u could run vtec

It has been known that using a z6/y8 head on a 1.5 block that the cam timing will be off half a tooth (4.75*). This can be fixed by using a y7 or y8 stock cam gear since the key is offset approximately that much. You could also get an adjustable cam gear to fix it as well but will be more expensive but worth it if you plan on doing a lot of tuning. I just recently found this out a couple of days ago.

Also, what grade fuel are you using? What is your ignition timing set at? Everything at TDC? What ecu are you using as well?

might seem like a dumb Q? , is mutli? it probably is, so what i did was slot my a6 dizzy to get that lil extra uhmf. got 90k out of it till i had corrosion problem w/ the block. oh yeah i used a a6 dizzy, y8 head, y8 gasket, y8 timing belt and a feilds vtec cont'. now i'm fighting w/ a y7 block and the same head. i put the z6 head gasket on it and it sucks. wrong head gasket. hope i helped a lil' bit.
