Default civic turbo burning oil bad can u please help


My 95 civic has a home made turbo kit on it i made it myself it gots a hks cast manifold sr20 turbo and audi 3000 front mount intercooler. the problem is thaT it smokes baddd cant even drive car when i was installing it and reved up it accidentlly went up to 15 pounds of boost "stock motor" i think it blew the head gasket so i changed it it still does it but get this if i remove the charge pipe it doesnt smoke could it be my head maybe or my turbo or pistons please hellpppppppp

sounds like your turbo needs a rebuild my trans am did that for a while it had a bad shaft seal

check your return line and make sure its not crimped mine was bent a lil and it was smoking so bad i couldn't see behind me.

I would do a compression and leakdown test, I would imagine a boost spike like that could definitely destroy some rings and ring seats. Could just be alot of blow bly. - Darrell

I agree, I think the compression test is a great idea, but I don't think that you will finda anything amiss, I ran 14 psi with a much larger turbo for a while on my stock internal A6 with no problems. A quick spike to 15 should be no big deal, as long as the car was tuned properly. It sounds to me like the oil seal(s) are going out on the turbo. Pull the charge pipe coming off the compressor and look for oil, also pull the intake/filter off the compressor and look for oil in the compressor. If you don't find any there it is probably the exhaust seals. (don't ask me how I know...2 turbos later)

First off...nobody asked what color the smoke is. Knowing the color of the smoke will allow us to help you a good bit more.

Second...lets use some common sense here. The car smokes when you have the chargpipes installed...yet when you take the charge pipe off(effectively making it N/A) the smoking stops. That right there should tell you that its a problem with the turbo itself.

It definately sounds like blown seals to me. If your return line is kinked then it will cause oil to back up into your turbo. This, in turn, puts alot of unwanted pressure on the seals. My suggestion for the turbo is to either buy a new one or send it to Majestic turbo and have it rebuilt.

While youre turbo is being rebuilt i would got to the FI forum and read every post that you can read. They might not all be related to your current situation...but youll learn alot. Also...SEARCH is your friend...it works wonders
