GSR Block Girdle on LS Block (machine question)
So I took an LS block I had with a GSR girdle and caps to a machine shop to get cleaned up, honed, etc. I had him check to see how the GSR caps would fit on the LS block. He said he would check the "main line" or something (I'm assuming that is to make sure the thing is straight so you won't have a wobbly crank hehe). He said it's 1/1000th's off, and that if it was his car he would just run it... but for a perfectionist, proably get it fixed/machined. My question is, is 1/1000th's something that will be a make or break?
Not really sure what I'm going to do with the motor just yet. LS/VTEC for sure, probably just N/A for a while... but boost in the future.
Opinions? I know there are some machine shop gurus on here.
Thanks.

first off, i doubt there are many machinists on here. they are a weird people.
its a thou off oem spec?..you know you arent suppoed to switch caps to different blocks right? well you can, even though you can line bore it i wouldnt recommend it. do as you choose. but whats your question anyways?
j/k a thou matters, and it doesnt. if the main caps are from a different block, get it line honed. if they were original, leave it. wobbly cranks will snap in a matter of minutes, so take that advice.

Yeah, I've heard it's not a good idea to use different caps but then again, I've only heard that. I always hear one thing and see people doing another.
I figured it would be ok as long as I ran it through the machine shop to see what they say. I thought it would be easier to just use the GSR caps since I have them with the girdle, instead of using LS caps and getting them machined.
I'm not quite sure what the thousands was referring too. I can find out later today or tomorrow though. Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you recommend using different caps even if they are machined to fit?
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

just because i was taught that caps were "married" to the specific spot in the block, meaning they shouldnt be fooling around in other spots
. And if they were to divorce, and move on to another block, problems, and money scandles would happen.
just think about it, and make your decision.
