I'm working on my budget for my current buildup. I'm taking a basicly stock 95 GSR and rebuilding everything for boost over the next year. i alredy have a type r head anothe gsr tranny a dual friction clutch and a 3'' exhaust sitting around and a stack of other misc parts. I'm going with a fully built sleeved block. anyhow what i need to know is how much i can expect to pay for tuning. I havent desided on a MES yet but it will more than likely be aem or hondata. I'm thinking i need to set aside a grand for tuning. You think thats going to be enough. I'm plannin on having the motor broke in on the dyno because i just dont trust base maps and it would take a couple hours to drive to the nearest tuner. So the car will almost defanetely just be pushed onto a trailer and hauled to the best shop around. I'm in S. Georgia so i'm hoping to take it down to florida and let Mase have at it. Anyhow if you have any input on tuning cost please chime in.

 

BTW this is going to be a street/strip car that sees a lot of daily driving. I'm shooting for around the 400whp mark to keep it streetable butwould like a high boost option for when its need on the track. So partial throttle tuning will be of the uttmost importance. And i realise it will probably take several trips to the tuner to get this setup "right"

 

you only want 400whp? then you dont need to sleeve it. Spend that money on tuning. Stock sleeves can handle 400 all day long. Hondata is good but you can use chrome or neptune.

 

uberdata only costs about 300 dollars total, hondata with everything is like 900.

 

i'ld like to keep it under the 400 mark for daily driving. But i would also like the ability to up the boost if need be, thats why i want a sleeved block. I'm in no huge hurry which is why the i am willing to spend the extra money. I have been reading up on neptune but i dont actually have any knowledge of the people arounf here that tune it. I think the tuner is more important than the system used.

 

get the aem ems for engine management and by a good wideband, tune it yourself. That way if you ever need to make any changes you can do it yourself. Street tune and get the A/F staight. Go on the dyno to tune timing and fine tune A/F and any other options you plan on using. my .02

 

and lie i said i'm more conserned with the cost of the actual tuning than the cost of the engine management itself. Although i have noticed that most systems are at least a grand once its all said in done. Everything need other components to work properly so its hard to figure out what each system is actually gonna cost. for instance i still dont know how much it would run me to run neptune once eveything is purchased and installed.

My tuner charges $165 per hour and wideband set up fee. He waived the fee for me since I already had a second bung welded onto my dp previously. He spent about 3 hours with me, I guess it was about 6 to 7 dyno pulls. He also spent about 1 hour with me street tuning, data logging. I think I spent less than 400 bucks total on tuning, if I recall.

I paid $80 to use the dyno to tune my cars and friends car.

 

run uberdata and instead of paying someone to tune your car invest in a wideband and tune it yourself

total cost of ecu, laptop, wideband, etc.. will be less then a grand if you go with uberdata
