91 crx SI tranny??? help!!!!!!!
ok My friend was driving today and we were on the highway then all of a sudden his tranny like locked up in nuetral.... it is very hard to move around and to get in gear does anyone know what it is?? thanks
hey guys!...im the kid with the ACTUAL problem....i was on the highway taking an exit in 3rd gear going pretty quick....then i shifted to fourth normally.......then a red light was coming up, so i tried to downshift from 4th to 3rd...and the shifter wouldnt come out of 4th......then i punched it up toward neutral and it felt like a ROCK!...the shifter DOES NOT MOVE......it is VERY STIFF...what could this be??...i have been wanting to change my tranny fluid...but never got around to it......could it be that i need tranny fluid....OHHHH BTW!---it does go into gear, just that it takes A LOT of effort......but once in gear its ok....i dunno what this could be.....PLEASE HELP ME OUT GUYSSSSS
The 91 Si doesn't have a hydro tranny (I put one in my car) it's a cable clutch. Trace the wire, it sounds like your clutch blew, which would explain why you can't get in or out of gear. Or you Neutral Safety Switch could be faulty (just take it out, you don't need it)

just b/c it's hard to get in gear doesn't necessarly mean that it's the tranny...it could be the shift linkage or the shifter bushings, orings, or any of that under the car...
first thing i'd suggest is check out the shift linkage...b/c if it is that then it'll be a quick and cheap fix. i've looked into parts for that before...the shifter thing towards the middle of the car is about $30-$40 to replace the whole thing, and the bushing towards the front is about $20 (aftermarket urathane or whatever)...
then if that doesn't work, good luck with the tranny!

I would highly reccomend not opening the tranny and trying to fix anything unless you are very confident with you knowledge of them. You could end up doing more hurt than help. Try to find a trusty mechanic shop to look at it. Most here will give a diagnostic for free.
ok....i looked at the linkages, and it seems as if the linkage that goes into the transaxle looks a little bent or twisted...not sure though.....when i depress the clutch pedal everything feels fine, goes in gear smoothly, its just that the shifter is stuck, EVEN in neutral.......when i try to move the shifter around in neutral, i hear a noise by the transaxle/linkage point...like a "CLICK, CLUNK" noise.....i dunno guys....

crawl under your dash and make sure the clutch pedal isn't broken its a common problem is EF's there will be a shaft that runs from the clutch pedal to the brake pedal and it usually brakes the weld on one end
