Default Building a Z6 turbo motor any ideas

gonna build a Z6 turbo motor i alread plan in fully built bottom end. but considering putting a y8 head on Z6 block. and building a tranny. Is the Y8 head worth putting on there?? Does anybody know FROM EXPERIENCE!!! if the y8 head will make that much of a difference.

By the way selling LS block GSR head and GSR Tranny. JG edelbrock manifold and holley throttle body. Internals include: 11.5:1 compression Ross pistons, reman crank, factory Rods, clevite berings, all w/ 0 miles on motor. every thing i got for 2100$ motor, tranny, ecu, harness, intake and exaust manifold, and throttlebody

For experience... no. But the Z6 head flows better than a Y8 head. I am going to suggest keeping the Z6 head. I am 75% sure that the Y8 head on a Z6 block will yield higher compression than the Z6 head on the Z6 block which is bad for boost.

That needs to be taken to the classifieds.

what about the roller rocker cams in the y8 head do they allow the head to have a more stable red line- by stable i mean will it rev to 9500 w/ just the addition of springs, retainers, and cam.

D16z6-9.2:1 compression approx.

D16z6 block + d16y8 head= 9.5:1 compression approx.

The head can be made to rev to 9500 with the correct springs and retainers. However, first you must find a cam that will make power that high and also size the turbo correctly so it does not run out of steam at high rpm.

stick with a z6 head, you wont see any difference by switching heads, and any head can rev high as long as you have the power and the proper valve train

I am only looking to produce about 220 to the wheels on stock intake manifold, and trottle body. do you think 10lbs of boost would be sufficent to produce that amount of power. keep in mind i am not trying to build a race car i just want to be faster than i am now.

10 psi will be close, depends on what turbo you are running

well i have several in mind but some buddies of mine own a shop here localy and installed a turbo kit for a guy. this dude has a 93 hatch w/ an LS swap, the only thing done is head work, now his turbo has a 96 hot side and a 53 cold side A/R, his turbo spools up at about 4300 but makes power till rev limiter, the car never stops pulling u just have to shift gears, i personally like the way it has turned out. i was considering doing something similar more like an 86 hot side and 53 cold side, which would make good power high end, but still back and forth have not decided yet
