does anyone do body work? need help
Im about to primer my whole car and prep it for a paint job. i was just wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix little dents like from door dings. I was jus goin to put bondo over the dent and just sand it smooth, but i dont want to much bondo on the car, so looking for different techniques. if yalls dont have any information for me except to go to a professional. thanks anywaise.
Thanks alot. Ive heard of people using dry ice to pop out the little door dings, anyone hear of that or know how to do it?
i have tried the dry ice method and it didnt work very well. the dry ice i used was biomedical grade and they were about 3" thick....but it might work for you? good luck.
How large are these dents? If they are simply door ding, bondo is fine. Make sure you grind the area around the ding before applying the bondo. If they are anything larger, you will need to pound them out. This is not as easy as it sounds. You will need a body hammer and dolly to do a good job and to keep from dimpling the metal. I have seen quite a few people dimple the metal or make it stick out further from the panel.
I did body work for 2 years.

thanks for the help people.
for dings that small, bondo will work fine. But I also suggest you go to the paintless dent removal guy. I say a guy do this at a car show, it was definitely amazing. Good luck. Do the work yourself, it ain't that hard. Have fun.

dude im so tired of seeing that conversion on that civic. and plus it dont even look that tight. just adds weight. please dont brag about that kind of conversions.
just pay a little extra and have the shop smooth out the dents...all the time and money its gonna cost you will amount to about the same anyways...but if you are going to do it...sand down the dents to the metal then use Marglass...its lighter but its harder to smooth out...it works just like bondo...but better
if you want your car to look like this and professional
take it to a professional body shop. You wont regret it, quality is best. So pay the extra bucks, its worth it.

if the dents not that big and you are gonna bondo....
just grind the sheezy out of the panel first....the heat will shrink the dent..
also after that you can try and heat the metal with a torch....the metal wants to go back to its origional shape and it tends to do so when heated....
just a few tips and tricks that bodymen know..

hey man LISTEN TO ME!!! i am in the same boat as you, i had my car painted and i went that step to save money (money that i didnt have) on the paint job
i paid 600 for the whole car to get painted! that is dirt cheap. now i did the small dents with bondo but you can see them still. less and not as tragic but nonetheless you can see them. i also shaved a lot of stuff (side moldings, all emblems) the holes for the side moldings came out kinda bad. you can see where the bondo was placed but you have to look at it pretty hard so im not owrried about it, soon enough im probably gonna redo the pain again (philly conditions SUCK). anyway, the front WW lip needs to be redone cuz of scraping and parking but overall the paint job is great.
ok, so my advice to you is to go ahead and get the dents fixed like everyone said, small dents -> bondo, biiger dents ->bang them out, but make sure you get someone to help you if you never did this before or you think this is something easy to do i because its not. it is HARD. after i had my car done i worked at a body shop, i mainly helped out with trivial stuff like sanding but i saw how its all done. i could do it flawlessly now with time but its kinda too late. so get some help from a pro who knows his stuff or watch someone do it and learn that way, but whatever you do, do not do at it by yourself right off the bat and make sure that your car is NOT the first time your going to do bondoing
trust me, this comes from personal, recent experience

hey SJ, call up Ding King, im in San Jo too (and SRO too, hehe). If u call them up, theyll prolly have you come down to a quote.
Dont trip about your ding. If you look at my integras door at an angle, the bastard looks like it has Cellulite. Thats how bad i need paintless dent removal. Also, look around in the yellow pages. Theres a load of detailers and PDRers

trust me when i tell you this. dont bondo! go to dent pros and have them do paintless dent removal. come out perfect. they really work on lil dents and dings.
i dont have that kind of money...i was just goin to primer my whole car since i need my front lip, hood, rear hatch, and wing painted, and door since i need that dent fixed, might as well try myself.
i work at a car dealership and we have a guy come in and do paintless dent remeoval. i have seen him take out some VERy NASTY dents so i would try that if you can find a guy to do it!
