Default base rsx VS. civic si concept

before you think this is a repost of some kind, keep your flame suit in your closet. i just have a question.

the new civic si (currently in concept form) looks like it's gonna be a strong contender. 200hp dohc i-vtec motor with an 8,000rpm redline sounds good to me considering i drive a base rsx with 160hp, and a measly ~7,000rpm redline.

if the civic si concept comes out similar stats as currently rumored, do you think i should trade in my 2004 base rsx for the si, if it is released? honestly, i'm not having too much fun with my rsx. the base motor isn't fun to play with. i'm hoping the new si will satisfy me. and no, i'm not in the market for a motor swap.

just in case you don't know much about this civic si concept, here's a link

well your base RSX won't smoke that '06 Civic SI for sure. No way.

if you want to trade it, thats fine too. but ultimately up to you if you have the money or not. most people will start flaming away cuz they are poor, they cant afford the good **** like trading in and buying new cars.

so yeah. my 2 cents.

the ONLY thing i dont like about it is the exhuast. but that would be a fun car to drive. i would definately trade in the base rsx for it, if i had the money.

oh crap! i wasn't flamed! haha

i spent about an hour today in between my classes just looking up stuff on this car. it's starting to grow on me.

this car calls for a change in taste. everyone on h-t seems to dislike the styling of this car because it doesn't look like a used honda from the 1990's.

i love the new si. at first i thought it was a little wierd but it definitely grew on me very quickly. i sorta has a mini tl feel to it. i am def going to try to make that my first new car purchase. the only thing about it that i'm not crazy about is the spoiler which hopefully honda will change, esp since i think most coupes look retarded w/o a spoiler.

I dont know why but this statement bothered me. This kind of decision should be your own decision. I mean the new si isnt even out yet. You havnt seen it in person, or driven it, or anything. You have an 04 base. A very nice car. Was word on the new Si not out yet when you bought? And if its the "stats" of the car that is so inticing to you why didnt you just get a type S? Judging by this post and the fact that your young im assuming its mommy's and daddy's money you'll be wasting on the trade.

Sorry dont mean to be an ***. Just my 2 cents. Goodluck with whatever YOU decide to do.

Why would you buy teh base if you want the Type S specs? The specs that have been provided thus far make teh new Si concept sound like a Type S w/ a Civic body & an LSD.....

good luck on trading it in. I'm not flaming, just sayin cuz I see this all the time. (i sell hondas) only owning a car, any car that is, 1-2 yrs and trying to trade it in will
hurt you in the check book. unless you owe less than what it is worth. If you didn't put $5,000 or more down or, trade equity of same value, chances are you will owe more than what it is worth. I would find out what you owe and try http://www.kbb.com for a "rough ball park" trade in value. after that, then see if it might be worth it to trade. just my .02.
OH...
another thing, it is just a "concept" vehicle so i wouldn't invest too much stock in it.
and there is plenty to do with the base.

well my mom bought me this car. of course, the luxury of this car is more than i need and actually wanted. i was going to buy a used gsr, but my mom kinda surprised me. what a great mom my brother purchased a type-s not too long after i got my base and i loved the feel of it. that extra reach of rpm's, the actual v-tec and the six speed made me jealous.

whitedc, of course this is my decision. i just need some input so i can make a smarter decision. thanks

i'm just very disappointed with the k20a3 motor. it's boring. i think i'm just ungrateful for what i have. but still, k20a3 motors are boring.

you have to admit they are.

Your best bet would be to wait and see what kind of bastardized version of the Si we actually get when they hit the showroom floors (or atleast when it gets close and the magazines actually start reviewing them)...from what i've been reading over and over again, the car is going to lose alot of its cosmetic appeal (mainly its larger rims, rear spoiler, and black housing headlights)...and then will be stripped of some of its performance oriented features (brembo's and about 10-15hp drop on the Kseries)...

I mean this is all here say since nobody really KNOWS whats coming but thats what i've been reading around the internet for weeks now, and given the history honda has when they show their new little sport compacts vs. what they actually release for sale, you can bet that atleast a few of those things will stand true when they go on the market later this year/early next year.

wait till sema, thats when it'll be shown in it's production form. i realy wish it was a hatchback though. i think honda saw the sales it made when the car was a coupe and thought it was the body, not the motor that really sold that car.

to another si coupe, the front is nice except for the headlights that curve into the accord grill .

the concept right now is nothing but bodypanels, i dont understand why they say it is powered by a 200 hp motor when there is no motor. what they should be saying, but their not, is that the car will be powered by a 200 hp motor.

if Honda decides to make the Civic SI 2006 200hp i-VTEC... then whats the purpose of having the RSX Type S at 200hp as well?

i would think lot of RSX Type S owners be pissed...that the SI is as fast.

the tradition has been the Acura line up of Integra (top of the line one) is faster than the top of the line civic.

You know a lot of people talk **** about the K20A3 motor. Why? Nobody said **** about the B16. They both were very good base engines for performance jumps. Many people could have gotten Acura Integr GSRs and left the Civic alone, but they idn't and nobody was whining then about how the Civic i so slow. The RSX and Civic Si (current) are bot heavier than older models, but that doesn't mean they can't be upgraded. That is the whole reason Hondas/Acuras are so popular. I think all you people waiting for the 2006 Si to come out are going to be very dissapointed. I remeber not too long ago reading abot the "new" civic coming out and it was a hatch that had a rear simiar to the CRX. Then it became a coupe. Don't expect the Civic Si to match numbers with the RSX-S (which received a 10 hp boost this year). Honda motor company wouldn't do that and **** alot of Acura owners off. Keep your base model and work on it. You sound young and probably don't need all that horsepower anyways. Take what you have and learn things as you go.

i was at work today and thinking, do i really want to trade? it is obvious i'm going to lose a lot of money from the trade, but this is what i came up with. the 2004 rsx i have right now will be more luxurious than the concept si. even though the motor of the concept si might be more powerful than a base rsx, i still have several options.

instead of losing my money into trading into a lower luxury car, i should just be thinking of swapping the motor of my base rsx, but maybe when i'm older. besides, i'm not even 20 yet.

gotta carry the dc5 pride!

boost it 1st, then wait and see if they'll make internal upgrades for the A3. Swap is very expensive compare to boost. But What are your goals? How much power are you trying to gain?

i'm not a big fan of huge power. i just like to have fun here and there. one of the most important things for me though, is reliability and consistency. i want to have my car for many years, and boost isn't going to help. some might say a motor swap isn't reliable, but that depends on the mechanic and the motor you buy.

I think it is ALWAYS a bad idea to buy the first year of a completely new model, regardless of Honda's best attempts there will be bugs in the 06 Si..your best bet is to wait until 07..sucks to hear but it's true
