300ex vs. 400ex
Hey guys Im looking to buy a quad pretty soon. Ive owned several dirtbikes over the years but I cant ride anymore because of an injury. Im going to switch back to riding quads again. I went down to the local dealership and they had a great deal on some left over brand new 2004's. The 300ex was $3200 and the 400ex was $4200. I was wondering if the extra money and extra cc's is worth it to buy the 400ex. I consider myself an intermediate rider but havent had the chance to ride either of these bikes. I almost purchased the 300ex but had second thoughts about the power. Thanks in advance
PS does anyone in california know about teh red/green sticker thing? is it true that all new bikes get a red sticker??

the 400ex is an all around better quad. it till have enough power stock for you to enjoy and then you can modify it as you grow. the 400ex is considered one of the best handling sport quads out. if you can opt for the newer modle it has reverse. the 300ex is a good beginers quad.

Honda doesnt make a 250r anymore. are you talking about the older 250r? I cant see any reason to pay more for a 5+ year old quad than a brand new one.
whats the difference between a sportrax 400ex and a trx400ex?

250r's have dropped in price so much its unbelieveable. you can find a full aftermarket R for $4500, and it will outrun/handle and jump anything on the market. but for trailriding its too much.
nothing is the difference, they are both a 400ex.

im not tryin to race anybody and if i did end up with the baddest quad on earth Id definetly let my urge to do dumb **** get the best of me. I was just out last month launching my bros dirtbike like a dumbass
Most likely i will be using it to ride the dunes around socal and mexico and occasionally riding very open trails in the desert. There isnt really any tight trails that I like to go to mostly open area
is there any other newer quads for around the same price that i should consider?
if the sportrax and trx 400ex's are the same thing why is the price different? BTW the honda website sucks

where do they have the 400ex and sporttrax listed? the older ones didnt have reverse, this years modle does, that and the plastic is the only difference. likei said earlier race inspired atvs should be sold and classified from just the sport atvs. and if you are looking to buy a used 400cc atv i would look at the kaw kfx 400 or the suzuki z400, same exact quad just diferent plastic. it has the 250r handling and has more stock power then the 400ex. you can find a used one for $3600 and it already has reverse.

the honda website has a sportrax 400ex and a trx400ex listed with different prices for each. It seems like the $4200 for a new one is a smokin deal. i dont even see too many at all used for that price. thanks for the help im looking the the kawi's right now

Only new quads that I know of that are red tagged are banshees. I got a 2004 450r and I got a green tag. If i were you I'd go for a 400...the 300 is a slow bike and you're gonna hate it. If you used to ride dirtbikes you can handle the 400 easily.

ahh i see, cali, of couse everything is more expensive there.
the suzuki z400 has the suspension of the old 250r and it has a little more motor then the 400ex stock vs stock. it also has reverse from the 1st year it was made, this is the 400ex first year to have a reverse. eithr one is a good choice for trail riding, but the z400 has had problems with the frame cracking. one thing about the 400ex, its been around for years and you can find a bunch of parts for it pretty easly, plus it has the reliability of honda behind it.
the banshee will prob not be made any more along with the blaster, i think the last years for them are 06. the blaster is a great beginer quad, but the banshee is useless unless its in a drag race. another quad that needs to be removed from the lineup is the raptor, yamaha should pull it and just forget they even made that mistake. the honda 450r and the yamaha yfz and if suzuki will ever release their 450 , they should be sold only for competition use only and not for a trail rider.
oh i forgot, one quad you might want to look into , if the kfz700 or suzuki v-force700, same thing like the 400cc, same quad between both companies. its asport utility, 700cc v-twin automatic. you just put it in forward or reverse and go, no gears, no cutch but it will haul ***. they make clutch kits to help out speed and acceleration, shocks and everything else, once you put an exhaust on it it sounds like an old VW bug. they are pretty expensive but they are a blast to ride.

hey guys...ive been riding a 300ex for a good while now, and im looking to upgrade. i do mostly trail riding, little bit of oval track, little bit of jumping. should i go all the way to a 450r? or just stick with a 400ex? i dont care about price, i just dont want a bike that will suck in the trails. email me back...jhollenbach21@hotmail.com. im looking to buy asap, and like i said i dont want to get the wrong thing.

the 450r will be too much, its a great trail quad, but it needs a rider, its geared really high and its meant to be ridden hard. with the 450, you cant lug it around and poke while riding it, you can hear it trying to load up. the 400ex is one of the best trail quads out there. its very comfortable either fling through the woods and its calm enough to leg around if you dont feel like riding hard. stepping up from the 300ex to the 400ex wont be too bad, you will be pleased with the power also. the new 400ex's now have reverse and if your buying an older one it dosent.

the sportrax 400ex and the trx400ex are the same thing just they changed the name for the new year. The only reason the the trx400ex is more expensive is because it has upgraded plastics to make it looks like a trx450r, also it has reverse and it's a 2005 model. The sportrax 400ex 2004 and previous years doesn't have reverse. Honda's website doesn't suck and if you would've took the time to read everything you would've found those differences very easily.
If it was me I'd wait till end of year when the 2006 models are comming out and ****** a 2005 trx400ex w/ reverse but since you don't mind not having reverse get a 2004 model.
