why do I not hear of people making headers out of Ti or iconel?
I'd think it'd be cost prohibitive + time consuming.
But weight loss is worth quite a bit to some of us - and there are many whose pockets are deep. (Not mine, of course!)

if you ever seen that sportcompact where they did the street car contest and that yellow mr2 won it. my buddy's shop did some of the work to that car. it has a supercharged v6 in it. it has titanium headers on it. and man let me tell you those things are about as light as a piece of paper.
but as far as being able to use them for turbo mani's they get to hot and wouldn't hold up. not even a down pipe could hold up.

Burns SS made a k20 header out of inconel.
And yes your pockets need to be very deep.

most people aren't willing to do things like remove carpet, insulation, and other "dead weight" on the car that costs them nothing...in the pursuit of weight reduction.
If you don't want to do that stuff, you're damn sure not going to be willing to pay big money to lose weight. that's why I think nobody makes them.

do you press in thum tacs with sledge hammers?
its kinda over kill in my opinion......mild steel is already good and stainless is really good

You can always use thin gauge (.035 or .028) to save a fair amount of weight while keeping the cost down
Inconel is horriblly expensive and titantium doesn't hold up well in a header application except on motorcycles

Well i'm not sure of the exact reasons but the properties of Ti aren't good when high volumes of heated gas are flowing over it im not the mettallurgist i'd like to be. Anyways it has tendency to crack and break down

I used thin 321 stainless in mine and that was expensive enough for me thank you very much. It was used because I'm wrapping the header. In a mid-engine arrangement with a full floor-pan, it's too dang hot to not wrap it. Still, I worry how long it'll last.
Ti or inconel... I ain't made of money, that's why.

It should last just fine we have used .035 321 on multiple 24 hr of le le mans cars with no failures. As long as proper fabrication techniques are employed i don't see an issue hpw thin did you go?
Most people on here own Civics. Civics are economy cars. Most people that modify Civics generly owned it in the first place because that's all they could afford.
If you have enough money to buy a titanium/iconel header chances are you have enough money for a better car in the first place.
Harsh but true, most people like to live within their means.
