Timing belt DIY question and belt tension specs
Anyone did a timing belt/water pump replacement by yourself?
How difficult is it? What's the most difficult part? How much time should I expect to spend?
My experience/skill so far is: replaced front wheel bearings, struts, coilovers, cv joints, brake pads/rotors, valve clearance adjustments, other basic maintenance like timing adjustments, etc.
I've got most of the tools I needed, except for the pulley remover hex "hold" wrench, which can be done by holding on the brakes in gear, right?
Also, what is the belt tension specs on the timing belt?

Its pretty easy i did it on my 99 gsr on saturday. The hardest part is setting the timing marks to align with the cams and the crankshaft. Everytime you line up the cam marks and the crank mark at tdc and when you install the belt the crank get out of time but eventually you will get it right it takes a couple of trials.
Handa RR, when the cams are at TDC are the makes on the crank pully also on top, or are they somewhere else?? I am about to do mine that moving the crank and getting the timing out of wack is what scares me
This will make your life easier.
Moroso Crank Pulley Holder/Acura (to hold crank pulley for crank bolt)

This tooo. (loosen crank bolt)

Use 5 mm pin punches and put them through the holes on the cam caps in order to accurately get the cams back on TDC with the crank. Use a breaker bar and a torque wrench that will go up to 130 ft-lb for the crank bolt.

When cams are at tdc the "up" mark at 12:00 the white notch on the crank pulley should be pointing a the pointer on the timing belt cover. So when you turn the crank and line it with the white notch (tdc mark) on the crank pulley with the mark on the timing belt cover the cams should have the "up" mark facing straight up and should be aligned with each other.

Ok i think this will help alot also.
So right now my old belt is still on, the cams are at 12 so I will have to double check the white mark before i touch anything. but as it was runnning just fine I am gonna guess that it is lined up.

if you need to get the timing specs, drive over to an Advanced Auto Parts store or whatever major parts store you have in your state. There should be a section of books there for all makes and models. the Acura book tells you exactly what tools you need, average time span and all the other specs needed for timing change.
