jl 500/1 cutting in and out?
Why is my jl 500/1 amp cutting in and out......
I have an eclipse cd8053 face
jl 500/1 class d amp
2 12 w3v2's in a power wedge
It was fine with the input sensitivity and bass boost pretty high...then all of a sudden it started cutting out every once in a while (sometimes while playing it loud, othe times it wasnt that loud)
For now i turned the input sensitivity down alot, but why was it fine before, and started doing it all of a sudded (tonite)?
And when the amp cuts out, the power light remains illuminated, but the subs just cut off.....??

yea they are....like i said, it's clipping, the green power light will stay on and not dim at all, so i know its not turning off because of lack of power.....
and there is a protection light next to the power light, that isn't lighting up when the amp cuts out either....ughh this is making me mad....
the ONLY time this happened in the past (same setup, 2 12 w3's and a jl500/1, but not the same amp and not the same speakers) was when i came out to my car after it sat in the sun all day and i guess the amps were realllly hot......

come to think of it, i have been having this little problem, after i pulled my headunit out and put it back in. it wouldnt completely cut, just like lower the bass levels. all of my connections are solid. thats strange b/c i also have a 500/1
well i just put these subs in....i had 1 12w3, blew that.....used a jbl GT for a few days until i got these 2 12 w3's.....worked fine all morning, pumpin it as loud as i wanted, then last nite it started to cut all of a sudden.......hmm

It takes very little power to keep the light, [LED] on the amp, on, and if the protection light is not turning on, I don't think the problem is after the amp, it sounds more like a power problem, not enough power, that may mean bad connections on the power wire or the ground, or maybe a bad fuse, [not blown just defective] if you are using the glass barrel type fuse, [on power wire] replace it.
They can get hot enough to melt the solder that holds the "fuse" to the end caps, you can see this by looking into the fuse through the glass and see if the solder has flowed, [melted] I have seen this lots of times.

Alright, I'll check that out..
I just went to the JL dealer I bought the amp from and he called his JL dealer rep, who thinks it is also a power problem.
I have all JL audio 4 gauge wire.....
Glass type fuse
Optima Red top battery mounted in trunk...
Here is how it's wired:
---Battery is grounded directly to the bumper bolt (sanded down paint where it connects)
---Amp is grounded directly to the negative terminal on the battery post (as you guys told me to do...)
---Positive wire goes directly to battery positive post, with an inline glass type fuse...I will replace now....
So the power and ground wires are about 2 fee long each...both 4 gauge JL....
We were just looking at the light and I'm pretty sure when the amp cut off the light dimmed for a split second, not went out by any means, but looked like it got dimmer......
BTW, they are not 12w3's, just found that out, they are 12w0's......either way, still PLENTY of bass for me.....when they stay on

****....i thought the fuse fixed it.....it started acting up again tonite......
I'm bringing it to the dealer i bought the amp from tomorrow to see if they can swap it out, or if they can test it to see if something is wrong....im positive my wiring is good....unless its the face thats doing it....but the components stay on loud and clear when the bass cuts out, so i dont see how it could be the head unit.....
