Mahle Piston Pins Won't Fit!!!
Okay I just received new Mahle Pistons for the H22A, I also bought Eagle H Beam rods, and yes, they are both for the H22A. Problem is this wrist pins won't go into the rods. They'll go into the pistons, but are just getting stuck on the rod when I go to put them through. Are they supposed to be snug. I'm not installing these myself, I'm just making sure I got the right parts. Are the pins supposed to be lubed in order to slide into the rod?
yes but its going to be next to impossible to handle them without a clamp or something. (dont maul your pistons) The heat causes the metal to expand where the cold causes the metal to contract. In theory the hole in the rod should open just slighty enough to make it a little bit easier to put the pin in. When it cools, good luck gettin the pin back out.
did the rod fit in the piston?? also make sure to clay the thing. the set we tested fro mahle had the valve reliefs in the wrong place and bent all the exhaust valves. we had to take about 40thou off each side of the rod to fit it in the piston. we used a hone to make the pin fit. these things work great in the sleeves though.
but you will not find me buying anything mahle. we agreed to test their pistons on the conditions that we would get to keep the pistons and if anything was damaged they would fix it. well, 4 months later all we have to show for it is a set of bent ferrea valves and an h22 with no pistons.
