Default D15B7 overheating?

Problem solved!!!

It turns out that the radiator which previously tested okay was clogging up at operating temperatures. It told me this by splitting at the top seam! New radiator, and all is well. Thanks to all for the help!!

Quote:

I have a 94 Civic LX that has 274,000 on the original engine. It has never given a day of trouble until it recently began overheating. By that, I mean that the dash guage will go all the way into the red, but the radiator cap doesn't blow. I did a compression check and found a low cylinder, so I replaced:

-the head gasket
-thermostat
-water pump
-guage sender
-radiator cap
-head was milled lightly
-radiator flushed
-cooling fan works properly

Compression is now fine, but the thing still gets hot on trips more than 15-20 miles! I can't figure out why it is doing this after all that work. Anyone have similar experiences with this engine?

Have you completely flushed out the entire cooling system, block and all? Have you checked of any of the hoses going to and from the radiator have any blocks in them?

Does it sporadicaly fluctuate between normal operating temp, then it'll get hot for a little, then go back to normal temp? If so, that could mean that you have air bubbles in the system. You'll need to bleed it.

Sometimes it goes down, but most times it does not. I know there are no blockages in the hoses and such, and I have used the bleeder fitting after filling. Maybe there is more air in there than I thought????

when you replaced ur HG...did you get the "special" headgasket that Honda made for the B7? For some reason they bulletin a special headgasket for this motor after it blows a headgasket. My b7's doing the same exact thing and im filling my rad everyday before i do a trip...turns out my HG is blown too internally though so it's not mixing yet....

Just gut the thermostat...Did the engine get really hot after you replaced the head gasket? If so the thermostat maybe locked tight...I had the same problem after I replaced the head gasket on my B7....the thermostat was closed b/c the car got hot after I replaced the head gasket....I would just do away with it first and see if that fixed your problem then if it did just go to where ever you bought it... Advance or AZ and defect it out...thermostats come with atleast a 1yr warranty most places...

I've had about 4 different thermostats in it since the trouble started, as well as a couple different guage senders. Still no dice.

As far as the HG, it was a FelPro I believe, from AutoZone. It appears the HG I took out was the original since it was falling apart!

same dude, if you need it i have a 140k d15b7...may need new valve seals and tb crap, but you could scrap that from your engine. Though i'm thinking the problem is coming from your rad if anything. you said its not blowing at all? check connections to your rad fan and check grounds too
