Default Just bought girlfriend a 92 integra and this is what i noticed today.....any thoughts?

Car: 92 Integra LS
Miles: 160,000
Trans: Auto

It wasn't happening yesterday, but today she started the car (it has 160,000 miles by the way(but runs good and shifts pretty smooth)) and saw the exhaust was shaking a little bit. So i popped the hood and first thought maybe a mount was loose or worn. And then proceeded to feel around and felt the plugs and the first plug from the right I felt almost a tapping when the motor was on. <<<this is what i was wondering about. I felt the other 3 and noticed nothing. So what could this be?

Thanks ahead of time

I haven't changed anything on it yet. So maybe the plugs are old or wires, i'm not sure. Any positive input is apprietiated.

so has anyone touched the top of a plug and felt a tap from below? it's not when i touch the valve cover anywhere around the plug, just on the top of the plug itself.

I've never felt that before, but as for the exhaust shaking around, I think you should just check the hangers. My exhaust used to shake and rattle against the LCA and make all sorts of ugly noises when it was cold. Bump for more info on your spark plug question!

Take out the plug and inspect it, see if the piston is slapping it; could be an incorrect plug or maybe it's just loose and the compression is causing a shake.

Either way, change the belt and give the car a good service, oil&filter, air filter, plugs adjust the tappets (valve to rocker clearances) and check the ign timing. You might need a new rocker cove gasket when you take it off. GL

not sure about the plug, but as far as it not starting, change the main relay. they are notorious for going bad on older hondas. get a new one and it'll start right up no problem.

Word up guys, thanks

Here's what i did today:

1. New Plugs
2. New Wires
3. New T-stat (was stuck open)
4. Oil/Filter Change
5. Headlight adjustment (they pointed 2 feet infront of the car lol)
6. New Air filter

First things first....the tapping coming from the plug was due to a loosely tightened plug.
Second...it must of been also causing the motor to vibrate a bit cause the exhause stopped shaking after i did plugs and wires.

But i still have one question....whenever i changed the wires i noticed that the one that was loosely tightened was filthy. Anyone know why that would be? And the other 3 were perfectly clean. Also the plug below that wire was nasty too, but the rest were much cleaner.

Anyone know why it would be dirty when the others weren't?

Thanks to everyone for the help

and quikLS i'll look into the main relay...thanks

might not of had a clean seal on the top of the cylinder that the plug goes into. The valve cover donut seal I mean. then a little bit of oil got in there?

With the plug being loose, it was probably missing a bit, that'd leave the plug fouled up after a while. As far as the top part goes, possibly there was some compression leakage past the threads since it was loose, that'd cause it to be pretty dirty over time. Keep an eye on the new plug in there. Make sure you replace the T-belt if you don't know the history of the car.
