should I turbo a itr?
I'm looking to get a 01 integra type r soon. I'll be selling my 99 ls and getting the type r. Here's what I'm wondering.... I've already purchased all the parts for a custom turbo kit for my ls. But now I'm wondering if I should slap the kit onto the type r or if I should just sell it. This is the kit Iv'e already got:
blox mani
authentic t3 super-60
custom 2.5" ic pipes, jcwhittney style
custom 2.5" downpipe
2.5" e-cutout before the cat
p28 ecu conversion
450cc dsm injectors
resistor box
uberdata
wideband 02 sensor and gauge
egt sensor and gauge
boost gauge
oil pressure gauge
tial 38mm wastegate
1g dsm bov
jrc 6" intercooler
I'm wondering if the compression ratio is too high on the type r to justify added the turbo. Also, I'm not sure if there is a tuner here that I have 100% faith in. And I haven't tuned mybself before...but I was planning on doing it myself. It would be a conservative tune. I belive the stock spring in the wastegate is set at 8psi. So that's about the boost that I'd be running.
Please let me know what you think of this.
And while you're at it....what do you think of the price I'm getting the type r for. They're asking $18,000 for a '01 type r. salvaged title. It was stolen, motor & tranny replaced after recovery. There is 1,000 on the new motor. Minor mod's, intake, header, exhaust, which would be replaced if I did the turbo install. So please lend some info on the topic.
Thanks in advance
edit: If I were to turbo the itr, is there anything that I should do to make it more reliable to boost? THanks

Up to how much hp can the stock internals handle? I think 8 lbs of boost will be sufficient for now, until I build the engine a bit.
Anyone have a turbo itr and can lend some input on their experiences?

he doesn't have a type R
Im gona boost my R one of these days I got pretty much everything ready for it just gotta find the time to install it
If I were you I would learn to drive the ITR first get used to it and get a feel for the car then decide if you wana boost it or not

I'm not completely new to the turbo concept. My '99 ls is currently turbo. But I just threw that on there to gain experience with the installation and tuning and stuff like that. So I've been driving my boosted ls for about 3 years now. I love boost! My *** dyno say's that I'm pushing about 210 hp in my ls and the type r is 195 stock. But I was planning on slapping my new turbo kit onto my ls to get it closer to 280-290. So I know the 195 isn't anywhere near my hp goals. But the bottom line is, I don't want to take any chances with damaging the type r and possibly turning it into a money guzzler.
What I'm wondering is if mechanically what can the type r handle SAFELY. I loved the low compression of the ls and the cheap replacement parts too. But I'd love to own a type r. The question is if I SHOULD boost it. I know I can, I know I want to, but SHOULD I? Thanks for the input so far.

If I had to do it all over again, I would just buy a hatch, swap it and boost that, when I bought my ITR, my plan was to keep it stock...well, that didn't happen. I do enjoy my car, but it would have been a lot more economical to go with a cheaper platform.

That was exactly what I was also considering. Keep the Type R stock. And get a cheap project car that I can have fun with and boost and blow and rebuild and not worry about hurting the itr, I'd really hate to do that. I think that might be my best bet. But I'd still love to boost that itr, I bet that would be really fun.
Why trade one 'Teg for another? Just to say you have an R? Finish one project then start another. As is, you're probably already faster than a stock R with probably less invested. Boost the **** out of the LS with your new kit and shoot for 300+WHP, if you're still thinking of getting an R after a low 12 second pass then do it.

asianspeed if your looking to get a type R i have one that is fully built and making 400+ whp atleast that would be a justifiable trade off hit me on my email if you are interested i can send you the list of extensive mods i have done to the car it is a 2001 cw gagnon_755@hotmail.com

If you intend to use the R for what it's made for, track events that is, then I'd say no more than 260-270whp on stock internals. If you're just a poser than maybe a bit over 300whp.
And if you search a bit you'll find lots of info:

$18k for a salvaged title ITR? I think that's kinda high. For the Salvaged title you'd never be able to get top dollar if you were to resell it, turbo kit aside...
I've seen perfect ITR's go for that price. Granted it has a new engine but tha salvage title will always be a burden once you try to sell. Just some ffod for thought.
I think with proper tuning you can turbo the ITR with no problem. But with the higher compression I'd think tuning and no crazy boost with stock internals is key.
Good luck!
