Default Some help with some definitions please

This will eventually lead to a different topic but I need to get some things straight,
what does it mean when people speak about "Close ratio gears"?
Torque converters with "3500 rpm stall(or whatever the number)?"

I can answer the gears.

Close means when you shift it only drops about 1200 RPM instead of well, 1500....follow me?

Close ratio gears: In a transmission, each gear has a distinct ratio by which it multiplies speed: for example 4:1, 2.5:1, etc. If the ratios are "close," there is not a dramatic step in between the numerical ratios. Practically speaking, when you're driving and shifting, the shifts will be quicker because it takes less time to drop/rise to the next gear's RPM.

To find the stall speed of a torque converter: Put the transmission in D, hold your foot on the brake, and floor the throttle. The engine speed reached is the stall speed.
