Default Some axle related questions

I replaced my passenger axle couple of days ago and I have been wondering about the appearance of the inner boot when I installed it. Instead of it being the normal ribbed shaped, it seems stretched as if all the "air" was sucked out. I'll take pictures when I get my camera to show what I'm talking about.

Also, I now noticed that I'm getting a popping/clunking sound from my driver side when I'm on the gas. Driver side axle going out too?

I know what you're talking about. Sometimes, when you go to install the axle, it'll fall out in the boot. You'll need to remove the axle from the hub and just wiggle the axle around till it looks right. Right now, don't drive your car until it's fixed.

Wait till you fix the passenger axle and then see if you're still getting that noise.

I feel you on the removal of the axle from the spindle! Mine was a pain too. I think my driver side axles looks like what you are talking about, stretch or something. I have been driving on it forever and never had a prob. I think it could be normal since there is room for the axle to move in and out thus stretching the boot. I think i'll take a look at mine tomorrow and feel the boot to see if anything is fishy.

well here's a pic i took when I pulled the old axle out and compared it with the new one. From what you can make out, it would see that the new inner boot is not high up enough so to where it would look like the old one.

edited with paint to help with visualization of what I'm trying to say

well I jacked up the car and took some pictures with my camera phone.

Here's how the inner joint looks when I pushed the axle out of the hub:

It looks like it should. But the outter CV isn't in the hub:

Here's how he inner joint boot looked before with the everything bolted down and in place:

Man... I think AZ gave me the wrong axles... Is there any difference in length between manual and auto tranmission axles? This is for the passenger side.

my 2 cents: you got the wrong axles. do you have a swap? the axle seems to be too short for your application. you can tell from your pics that the new axle is shorter than the old one.

I don't have a swap. Just the stock d15b7 with auto tranny. I called AZ to confirm what I got and they said I got part number 7078 which is the correct number.....

What should I do? Should I go get another axle? The axle shaft itself looks definitely shorter than my original....

Yes, I think you have the wrong axle as well. It's way to short.

well i pulled out the axle and brought it back to AZ to compare it with another 7078. Come to find out that the axle I got was packages wrong. I wonder what it came off of. The part number on it was 8428. Well the problem is solved and so is my broken lug stud. I just need to get around to tackling the driver side axle now.
