Tranny Cracked Need Help Please look.........56k go drop a stink pickle....
Hello all, After reinstalling my tranny after my LS-Vtec swap I noticed that my transmission was leaking fluid. It had not been staying in 5 gear for some time and I thought my Syncro was shitting the bed. I noticed some buildup which I found to be JB weld. I found that someone has crossthreaded the plug and cracked the hell out of this area. I asked a good friend of mine who is a mechanic and he said there are alot of threads here so it should be ok. My question is what would be the best thing to do here to keep it from leaking. This is not the drain plug, it is the area that accepts the 1/2 inch rachet for dissasembling the tranny. Could I just clean it up and JB weld it again or maybe remove it and tephlon tape it? Any other suggestioned would be great. It is not leaking alot but I don't like it leaking at all. the good part about this is that after the swap, we filled the tranny back up with oil and my 5th gears works great......Let me know what you think. I know that some of you are going to say replace the casing, however I am broke as **** after the swap and that is not an option at this point. I am looking to patch the problem unti I can afford to do better.....Thanks for anybody with some serious suggestions.......Here are the pics....

i've tried the JB Weld thing on damage very similar to yours.leaked,and would crank out ove time.
if you're mechanically inclined you can replace the tranny case.if you have to pay somebody it may be cheaper to get a new tranny.

After I get straightend back up from my wedding and honeymoon I hope to replace the back part of the casing. I am just looking for a cheap patch for the moment.....

the JB Weld will work okay for a temporary fix.
i got a tranny case for my GSR tranny for like $50 shipped,and it's not hard to swap everything over-just make sure you have a manual for all the torque and clearance specs.definately the way to go.

Did yall try to just cover the broken part or did you cover the entire area including the plug??

it started off trying to just kind of rebuild the part that was gone(basically making it so you could still remove the plug).it leaked and broke out over time,so we ended up covering everything(including the plug),and it worked better until it could be fixed.

He does't need a new tranny, just a new case. Its just a bitch to take off because of that inner snap ring.

I think I will clean it up and JB weld the hell out of it....If it will hold out for a couple of months, it will be great......Thanks guys......
I know a guy who can weld aluminum....would I have to take the inerds out for him to weld it, or would it be ok just to drain it and let him weld it that way....
