thanks a lot i knew of those 2 ways, but the thing i was really worrying about is how hard is it going to be to keep the engine planted on the palet while trying to torque that ****** off.. its gonna be rough i think, i got no engine stand
when i took off my flywheel when it was out of the car.. it took 3 ppl to take all the bolts off...1 guy layin on top of the motor, 1 guy holdin the flywheel, 1 buy wit the breaker bar breakin lose the bolts..lol..good luck

I used an impact wrench to break it loose, but I also had an open end wrench holding the flywheel steady... You thread a screw through the box end of the wrench to the engine side of the bellhousing, then you rest the open end of the wrench on one of the flywheel pegs - thus preventing the flywheel from turning. It would be much easier with a picture, but it's a very simply idea if you have the tranny removed.
Since the engine is out of the car, using a long breaker bar is next to impossible as the engine itself is going to be moving all over the place.
You can rent impact guns from Home Depot (heh, I work there) and I'd also recommend buying a cheap propane torch. If the gun doesn't get off the bolt in your first couple tries, heat up the bolt for a couple minutes and then try again. You'll get it off, it just takes time. Good luck!!!

I took a piece of 1/4" thick 2" wide and 20"s long flat stock and welded two bolts to it head end down. The bolts are spaced to fit in the holes on the crank pulley. Works great. I have also heard of people using strap wrenches.
Use a cargo strap to hold it on the pallet. I hve my engine presently sitting on a pallet and I straped it down when I pulled my crank pulley off to do my timing belt. The weight of the engine should hold it in place and keep it from sliding just make sure the straps are tight.
i just bought on eof those korean made ebay style crank pulley tools and had one freind use that while i busted out the 2ft breaker bar, only took like 30 secs to get it off, by the way my engine was out of the car
use several links of a CHAIN (from HOME DEPOT), bolt one end to where one of the pressure plate bolts (on flywheel) and on the other end bolt to the starter is bolted (block side). make sure bolts are threaded down snug. use a big breaker bar and have someone hold the block. you can also remove and torque your flywheel that way too.
