well i bought into my first pair of rims a little under a month ago. they are 17's with falken tires for $350. it was a good buy. some damage on them not much. they are probably 35-45 pounds a peice though. my car is now slower than crap. so now they are up for sale and im looking for 15 to 16 inch rims. some light ones that is. im pretty new to the whole rim and tire thing. so what would be some light rims with a polished lip and painted black??? what is a good weight for 15 or 16 inch rims??? thanks for the help

 

yah.. weight is a huge factor.. but unlike the heavy rims you bought - light rims aren't cheap.... it'd be tough to find light weight 16s for under 500 for just 4 rims - then tires are another story

My first words of advice would be not to go for popular wheels (they're not always light) Look around.. the best wheels are japaneese companies that make wheels for race cars... 16 or 17 in wheels weighing like 14.. 13.. and i've even heard of 10 pounds. When Sport Compact Car runs its giant wheel issue, they consider any wheel that weighs 1 pound per inch of diameter or less "lightweight"

so if you have a 15 inch wheel, if it weighs 15 pounds or less it would be considered lightweight. That always seemed to be a pretty smart cutoff point to me

If you don't have the big bucks, you can always look into Rotas, which make cheap knockoffs of about half the lightweight wheels mentioned above

 

the offset determines wut again??? cuz with these 17's i have a prob. with turning the wheel all the way. i have to have it cranked all the way for it to rub. also on 15's how low could you go before rubbing issues. and thats without taking the inner fenders out??? thanks for the help

and as for how low on the 15s.. im sure u'll have at least 1.5 - 2.0 inches before you run into problems (just a guess).. if you threw on some eibach lowering springs that drop it 1.7 in the front and the rear u'd be fine

 

well i have b&g springs that have a 1.75 dop front and back and with the 17's i can damn near fit two hands between the 17's and the fender its nasty looking.i was considering the h&r race springs witht eh 15's. once again thanks for the help

 

what about steel rims like for winter use, would those be lighter? i know steel is heavier then aluminum but alulinum wheels are alot more beefy, then simple black steel rims.

i also want some rims that look good. there is no point of getting the steel rims when you can get lighter hx rims.

 

i have a set of 195/60r15 pirelli p6000 tires. what size rim do i need 15x6?15x6.5? 15x7?
