Default Changing brake pads.

When changing brake pads do you need to resurface the rotors? What if the rotors are slotted? What can cause sqeeking noise when letting off the the brakes or slowly getting on the brakes? I don't think it's the scrapper because it doesn't make that kind of squeek it's a different sound than the scrapper but I can be wrong. What do you gurus think?

the rotors only need to be resurfaced if their warped. You know if their warped if the car and steering wheel shudders a lot when braking. Brake squeal is... well its brake squeal. Get some better pads and that should go away.

you don't need to resurface them if they're still smooth take off your pads and run your finger along the rotor, if its deeply scored then you should have them smoothed out.

probably squeaking because they're new. whenever ive done pads i find that it squeaks until the pads get broken in a bit.

You should definitely bed your new brake pads, if you do not, you may end up with even more uneven brake pad deposits that cause more shuddering due to so-called 'warping'.

i agree....that way you have a new surface against another new surface. i've always either resurfaced or purchased new ones.

either bring them to a shop or you can try DIY and start by sanding with a rougher sandpaper going to finer, not sure what grit you'd use I just buy new rotors.

Don't use sandpaper, if you do want to sand instead of resurfacing, use Garnet paper. Sandpaper has components that will cause pitting and will ruin the rotor's surface.

he speaks the truth! thats one of the things they told me in my braking systems class. you might as well just take it somewhere and get it turned, its usually only like $8 a piece....as far as resurfacing slotted disc, you just gotta find a place that knows how to do it.

put lube on the back of the brake pads and they still squeek. They only squeek when there's a light pressure on the brakes or when I release it. Like if i push release push release, i can hear it squeek, stop, squeek, stop. So yea, now what can I do?

What kind of brake pads did you buy, usually the cheap ones will make a lot of noise. Go pick up a set of oem honda pads and you'll be happy you did. My friend's a honda tech and wouldn't let me put some napa pads on my new rotora rotors and i ended up gettin oem pads, glad i did.
