Default When to expect new rings to seat ? Low compression with new cp's.

Ok so I ran a set of JE pistons in my b18a and now i have changed to cp 9-1, the engine was completely rebuilt when the JE's ran for 10k and when i put the cp's in i only honed the walls enough to remove the rust that had built up over a month or so.

I have put around 700-800 miles on the cp's now and i am only getting a high compression number of 120.

So my question is when are these cp's going to seat?

Or are they not going to because the cylinder walls were not fully re-honed.

Thanks for any imput.

Did you change cams? Is 120 consistant across all 4 cylinders?

No 120 is the high the other three are in between 90 and 110.
stock cams.
I am thinking about pulling the head and rehoning it.
i think the rings could handle it.

and i need my compression.

90-120 is too big of a variance. Something is not right there. Did you try the drop of oil test?

maybe honing the block messed up your cross-hatching.. I know you need the proper cross-hatch to gain proper seat, otherwise its a 50-50. Good luck, possably drive the s#^t out of it and maybe it will seat in time...

Drop a tea spoon of oil into the cylinder with the low comp reading. If it jumps up dramatically (anything over 10psi) its your rings.

Any body think it could be the starter ?
It sounds way weak when cranking for long periods of time, like when compression testing. I am talking 5-10 seconds as a long time. It kinda craps out I am going to put new bushings in it. And try again with a different compression tester to be sure before i rehone it.

No not the starter. They probably won't becasue the cylinder walls were not fully re-honed.

Part way prep gets part way results. I would re-hone the right way and re-ring your pistons.

Ok thank you to all I am going to try a few more things and then rehone it.
If nothing works.
The end.
