Default HELP with D16y7

Hi, I have a stock D16y7 on my 97 hatch with 110,000 miles. I drove two of my friends hatches with around the same mileage and mine just isnt as fast. Lets just say I have trouble accelerating on a hilly freeway. I think its been like this eversince I bought it and I just thought it was like that because it was a civic lol. Well anyways, I checked everything and I cant find what the problem is. I checked all timing, cap, rotor, new air filter (intake), and also new bosche +4 spark plugs. Everything seemed to be fine. My uncle said its most likely that I have a clogged catalytic converter... what do you guys think? Anything else I havent checked? Thanks.

clogged cat sounds like it could be it.
clogged injectors, valves arent seating right or need adjusted

do your friends have any mods?? do you have more weight in you car than they do (system)?? that would make a difference

But yea civictilldeath, everything is the same... even when theirs and mine was stock (all we have are shitty intakes now lol) mine was still a lot slower and I dont have a system either. I also checked my compression and everything is good... also how do i check "clogged injectors, valves arent seating right or need adjusted" ? Oh and thanks for all the help

Swap in a y8 or z6 tranny and it will help out a lot. I've done it before.

yes this would help out, BUT the z6's (92-95 ex vtec) tranny is weaker than the y8's (96-00 ex vtec) tranny. i have a d16y7 w/ a y8 head and HAD a y8 tranny and i spanked the crap outta my neighbors 95 civic ex and we're both 5spd, stock.

y7 block with y8 head has more compression than a stock z6 or y8 dude. The trannies are the same other than shift fork material.

<<<--- HA lmao thats the funniest thing i've heard of.... for ur info the dx non vtec block low *** compression and the ex vtec has higher compression. think about it motor that CAME w/ vtec should have higher compression to push that motor more and that's a reason why the y8 motor stock has 127hp. on the other hand the dx NON vtec has longer/taller gears, low compression and has no performance than that motor at all and came stock w/ 106hp. The d16y7 is a fuel economy car and saves gas which equals no pwr to be racing in.

Sorry bro, but when you put a y8 vtec head on y7 block and you use the y8 headgasket you net more compression than a stock y8 setup because of the way the y7 pistons are domed.

And the y8 is not fuel economy? And the y8 is meant for racing? Now that has got to be the funniest thing I've heard of and many will agree with me.

Now lets get back on track, the y8 tranny and z6 tranny are identical other than the z6 shift forks being aluminum and the y8 forks being steel.

And about you spanking your neighbors car, you could have been racing a 16 year old with his first car.

take out those bosch plugs and put in some ngks.

Clogged cat is also my guess. Just search for seafoam also and do that. it'll probably help

after that do a valve adjustment

Yeah, my uncle helped me check that also (valve clearance) and it seemed to be fine. As for the plugs... are bosche plugs that bad? lol everyone tells me to switch to ngks

bosch are shitty.. only cars they seem to work decent in are VW and audi.

Use what comes in from the factory. NGK is the best for our cars and thats what they were designed for

Hmmm... would the spark plug wires have anything to do with it at all?
