Default Hub assemble removal for axle removal?

I get clicking noises when turning or accelerating and i noticed that my C/V boot was squirting grease out one side so i think my C/V joint is gone. I have a 97 accord ex, what i need to know is if i have to have the bearing pressed back into the hub assembly or something liek that...i kno i had to have a shop do my rotors because of that. Does anyone know if this has to be done to remove the axle or can i just tap the axle out of the hub assembly?

No sir .. just remove the tire, unbolt the hub nut, unbolt the bottom ball joint and the axel will come right now. No machine press needed (thats only for the rotors & bearings and suspension bushings).

you don't need to remove the hub. sometimes on accords as old as yours you need to hammer the axle out of the hub.

its best to remove the axel nut before jacking the car. Seeing as most Honda's have them at 160 ft lbs of torq to tighten. Then once loosen or remove the axel nut then jack the car, place jack stands, remove tire, seperate the upper ball joint from hub, remove tie rod (but mark alignment of rod to hub before knocking loose), remove caliper, then tap out axel from hub (then have to pull hub back the hub some to get it totally out unless you remove the lower ball joint also to remove the hub totally), then pry it from the trany gentally with small twist at the same time.

I have done this several times to my 91 due to upgrades and replacement of parts as I had the money to do so. Gotten to the point where I can do the full hub in about 3 min removal and 5 min install. Install longer to torq the bolts to speck.

DO NOT HAMMER ON THE AXLE THREADS (you'll ruin your core)!!! Use a rubber mallet or a block or wood. Also have the nut loosened but still threaded on that way you can repair the threads. My buddy got impatient and ruined the threads on a perfectly good axle.

You can buy remanufactured axles to save time over doing them yourself. I think they are about $60. Also, get the ball joint seperator tool, Autozone will loan you one for free, just need to put a deposit down, but will save you time over the BFH method.
